Field blocks

Use a Field block to ask a question and collect responses while someone completes a Guide. The block holds the prompt and one or more answer methods.

You need edit access to the Guide and a workspace that allows authoring to configure it. Learners see the saved prompt and available response controls.

Add a question

1. In an editable page, choose Add block.
2. Choose Field for an empty question, or a Field preset with a method.
3. Give the block a useful Block name for authors.
4. In Content, write the Field prompt shown to learners.
5. Set Response requirement to Optional or Required.
6. Use Add answer method (+), configure the method, and select Save block.
7. Reopen the block to verify it and test the response in Preview.

An empty Field has no input until you add a method. A required Field needs one accepted valid response in Play; Preview does not enforce the same navigation guards. See requirements, validation, and reports.

The prompt supplies the default answer label in reports. Block name identifies the block in the editor; it does not replace the learner's question or default answer label. Rich text and images can help explain the prompt; see rich-text editing.

Older Scale answers remain playable. Use Number with Slider for new numeric scales.

One method opens directly. Multiple methods show a chooser; configure their buttons, images, order, and layout.

Configure the rest of the response flow

In Content, Return to response methods returns learners to the chooser after explicitly finishing a response. Reset after leaving page starts a fresh response on a later visit while retaining earlier saved answers. See multiple responses and page returns.

In a method's Advanced settings, configure supported validation, report wording, and after-submit actions.

Use Linking to send compatible answers into a Form. These mappings save separately from the ordinary block draft.

Use Speech for the prompt's spoken text, audio, voice, and accessibility wording. Prompt speech plays authored instructions; Audio Recording collects the learner's answer.

If no controls appear, add and configure a method. If the learner cannot continue, resolve the named required Field or its validation/evidence error. A button label alone never configures a navigation or finish action.
