Photo answers

Use Photo when someone should capture or choose an image as a Guide answer. The image becomes answer evidence only after Submit photo.

Configure Photo

1. Open a Guide you can edit and select the Field.
2. Under Answer methods, choose Add answer method → Photo.
3. Enter Instructions explaining what to photograph. Guide review flags missing instructions as unusable.
4. Optionally choose a Reference image in the authoring settings.
5. Review Response requirement, Report settings, and any after-submit action. Select Save block and test in Preview.

Reference image is an authoring aid. It is not displayed to the player or submitted as their answer. Put player-facing directions in the prompt and Photo instructions.

Choose, review, and submit

1. Select Photo if the Field offers several methods.
2. Select Choose photo.
3. In the mobile app, choose Take photo or Choose from library. On web or desktop, use the system image picker; camera availability depends on the device and browser.
4. Check the preview while the photo uploads and processes.
5. When ready, select Submit photo.
6. Wait for acceptance and any configured action. If offered, Done with response returns to the method chooser.

The picker accepts images and uses the first selected file. Allow the camera or photo-library permission needed for your chosen source.

Choosing a file starts preparation. Upload success, processing readiness, and elapsed action delay do not submit it. An unsubmitted candidate does not satisfy a required Field or become submitted Report evidence.

Replace an accepted photo

Choose Choose another image, review the replacement, and select Submit photo. The prior submitted photo remains accepted during review. Keep submitted photo abandons the replacement; cancelling the picker keeps the current selection.

A failed replacement upload or submission does not erase the previous answer. Submission retries reuse the prepared image. Returning to an accepted photo does not automatically submit it again or replay its action.

Switching methods or leaving cannot submit a candidate in the background. Complete review and submission before closing or resetting the player. See Field responses and visits.

Recover and check evidence

For upload or processing errors, choose Retry photo upload when offered, or Choose another image. If submission fails after preparation, select Submit photo again after addressing the error. It stays unavailable while the candidate is not ready.

For picker problems, check device permissions and try another available image source. If CareMap rejects the file, choose an image rather than a document or video.

Included Reports expose accepted image evidence to people with Report access. Preview photos remain temporary and stay out of the Reports inbox. Session synchronization explains pending server writes. Photo can map to a Form Upload that accepts images; the Form's upload restrictions still apply.
