Configure answer methods and chooser buttons

A Field can offer one response method or several alternatives. You need edit access to the Guide to configure them. The method chooser appears only when more than one method is available.

Add and arrange methods

1. Open the Field block in the editor.
2. Under Answer methods, select Add answer method (+) and choose a type.
3. Select its sidebar entry or mobile tab to open its settings.
4. Configure the input, such as the options to choose or the number range.
5. Drag its reorder handle to change the chooser order.
6. Select Save block, then preview the question.

The add menu offers types that are not already present. To offer another input of the same type, use that method's Duplicate button. The copy appears next to the original; review its label and settings. Completion does not offer Duplicate. Older Scale methods remain playable but are hidden from current method editing; use Number with Slider for new work.

Use the method editor's Remove button and confirm Delete answer method to remove it from the draft. Cancel keeps it. Save block applies the removal; discarding the block draft keeps the previously saved configuration.

Name and illustrate the chooser

With multiple methods, select a method and set its Button label. For ordinary methods, Subtitle (optional) adds supporting words below the label. Button labels allow up to 200 characters and subtitles up to 500; shorter wording is easier to scan.

A blank subtitle shows no automatic description before answering. After an answer is saved, its summary can appear in that space instead. A supplied subtitle takes priority over the answer summary.

Use Choose image, Change image, or Remove image and review Button preview. See image sources for the shared picker. Wait for uploads, then save the block.

Completion uses Builder name in a mixed-method Field. Its separate Confirmation label and image configure the activity's completion button; see Completion answers.

Choose the layout

Above a selected method, Multiple answer methods layout applies to every chooser button in that Field:

• Compact rows uses a smaller image or method icon beside the words.
• Large square tiles uses a square image or icon above the words. Images fill the square and may be cropped.

The learner's presentation preferences can reduce the number of columns. This setting is separate from the layout of individual Options answers.

When controls seem missing

With only one method, the player opens its input directly. General chooser labels, subtitles, images, and the shared layout control are hidden in the editor because there is no chooser. Completion's confirmation appearance remains available.

Adding another method reveals the chooser controls. To make a mixed Completion Field a single confirmation again, select Use completion only, review the methods it removes, confirm, and save. Use supporting note/photo settings for details within that one confirmation.
