Signature answers
Let someone draw a signature and provide any required signer details.
Use a Signature answer method when a player needs to draw a sign-off while completing a Guide. CareMap saves the drawn signature, signer name when provided, and signing time with the Field answer.
You need edit access to the Guide to configure this method. Signature answers are Guide evidence; they are separate from signing a document in a person's record.
Add and configure a Signature answer
- Open the Guide in the editor and select the Field block that should collect the sign-off.
- Open Answer methods, select Add method, and choose Signature.
- Give the method a clear label. In Instructions, state exactly what the player is signing or confirming.
- Set Signer label to the words that should identify the name field, such
as
Signer name,Witness name, orCaregiver name. - Set Signer name to Required or Optional.
- Set Sign-off consent to Enabled. CareMap flags the method as not ready for sign-off when this setting is disabled.
- Review the Field block's required setting and the Signature method's report settings, then save the block and preview the Guide.
The Sign-off consent option is an authoring setting; it does not add separate consent wording to the player view. Put the sign-off statement and any context the player needs in the Field prompt and Signature instructions. Guide review also flags missing instructions or a missing Signer label.
Draw and save a signature
- Select Signature if the Field offers more than one answer method.
- Enter the signer name. This field may be optional, depending on the Guide.
- Draw in the signature box with a finger, stylus, or mouse.
- Select Clear if the drawing needs to be erased, then draw it again.
- Select Save signature.
Save signature appears only after CareMap detects a drawn signature and, when required, a non-empty signer name. After saving, the drawing pad is replaced by a signature preview and a Signed by summary when a name was provided.
The drawing pad works across web, desktop, and mobile with pointer input. It does not provide a keyboard-only way to draw. If a player cannot use touch, a stylus, or a mouse, add another appropriate answer method to the Field so they have an accessible way to respond.
Replace a saved signature
- Select Redo signature below the saved preview.
- Review or change the signer name.
- Draw the replacement on the blank signature pad.
- Select Save signature to replace the saved answer.
Select Cancel redo to keep the existing saved signature. Clear removes all strokes from the current replacement; it does not erase the previously saved signature unless a new drawing is successfully saved.
Required evidence and Reports
A drawn signature is always required when the Signature method is used. If the signer name is configured as required, that name is required too. A Field block marked optional can still be skipped; a required Field needs a saved answer for that block before the player can finish the Guide.
When the method is included in reports, people with Report access can see the answer summary and saved signature image. Preview answers do not create a Report.
Fix common problems
- The Guide has a Signature warning: Enable Sign-off consent and add non-empty Instructions and a Signer label, then save the Guide.
- Save signature does not appear: Draw at least one complete stroke and enter the signer name when it is required.
- The drawing is wrong: Select Clear before saving, or use Redo signature after saving.
- A replacement should not be kept: Select Cancel redo to return to the existing saved signature.
- Saving fails: Keep the drawing open, check the connection, and select Save signature again. A failed save keeps the replacement strokes so they can be retried.
- The signature is missing from the Report: Confirm that the saved preview appeared and that the Signature method is included in reports.
