Keep multiple responses and reset on page return

Use Return to response methods and Reset after leaving page to control saved answers and repeat visits.

Each answer method in a Field can keep its own response. Two Field settings control whether learners return to the chooser after answering and whether a later page visit starts fresh.

Authors need Guide edit access to change these settings. Learners use the controls offered by the saved Guide.

Return to the method chooser

  1. Edit the Field and open Content.
  2. Enable Return to response methods.
  3. Configure at least two answer methods.
  4. Select Save block and preview the response flow.
  5. Answer through one method and use its finishing control.
  6. Choose another method, or reopen the first to review or edit its answer.

Depending on the method, finishing uses Submit, Save, Confirm, Continue, or Done with response. Methods that normally save as you interact can show Done with response for this explicit return.

Autosaving, browsing nested options, and beginning an upload do not finish the response. Resolve failed saves and wait for required media to become ready. The setting has no effect with only one method.

Reopening and editing a method updates that method's response; it does not create an unlimited list of answers to that method during the same visit. Other methods' saved responses remain.

Change or remove an answer

Change may return directly to the chooser or open a menu. Choose Choose another method when offered. Photo, drawing, and audio inputs can also offer their own replacement controls.

Switching methods does not itself delete their saved responses. Use the method's Reset, Remove, clear, or undo control to remove or reverse that response. Check its resulting status before continuing.

Return to response methods does not cancel an accepted after-submit action. Navigation can therefore take the learner away instead of leaving the chooser visible. Accepting an unchanged response again during the same Field interaction does not replay that response's action.

Start fresh on a later visit

In the Field's Content section, enable Reset after leaving page and save the block.

Returning after moving to another page starts a fresh response for that Field. Earlier saved responses remain in the session and can appear separately in the Report when included. Clearing the new response does not clear earlier visits. A required Field must be answered again on the new visit.

Opening a popup keeps the underlying page's response. Closing and reopening the popup itself starts another visit to that popup. Reloading or starting a new run can also start a fresh visit; do not use this setting as a way to restore an unfinished input.

With Reset after leaving page off, previously saved method answers remain available when returning. Both switches are off unless configured.

A required Field still needs only one accepted valid method response, not an answer through every method. See requirements and reports.
