Whiteboard answers

Use Whiteboard when someone should draw, sketch, circle, or mark up an image in a Guide. It supports a finger, stylus, or mouse. Authors need Guide edit access.

Configure the surface

1. Edit the Field and choose Answer methods → Add answer method → Whiteboard.
2. Leave Show whiteboard inline off for a full-screen drawing space, or turn it on to draw inside the Field.
3. Select Background color and Default marker color.
4. Optionally choose or upload a Background image, such as a diagram or body map. Wait for it to be available.
5. Review the Field's Response requirement and method Report/action settings.
6. Select Save block and test the activity in Preview.

The background image is visible to the player and becomes part of the saved drawing. The author can Clear it to restore a plain background. Use a Field prompt to explain the task and maintain enough contrast for the marks.

Draw and save

1. Select Whiteboard if several methods are offered.
2. For full-screen presentation, choose Tap to Draw. An inline board is already open.
3. Draw and change marker colors as needed. Each stroke keeps its own color.
4. Use Undo to remove the newest stroke, or Clear to start over.
5. Select Save whiteboard and wait for saving and media readiness.

Save requires at least one complete drawn stroke. A blank board, background alone, or single tap is not enough. CareMap combines the background and strokes into one PNG image.

Closing the full-screen drawing space retains the current draft; it does not save it. Switching response methods can retain draft strokes within the current visit. A configured page reset or fresh run can clear them. See Field responses and visits.

A local preview can appear while saving is still in progress. Resolve errors and wait for evidence readiness before treating the response as complete. With Return to response methods, successful ready evidence returns to the chooser. A saved response can also offer Done with response.

Edit an accepted drawing

Select the saved preview or Edit whiteboard. The saved image becomes the base for new strokes. Undo removes only strokes from this edit; it cannot separate marks already combined into the saved image.

Clear discards that saved-image base from the draft and restores the author's background. Draw again and save to replace the answer. Cancel edit returns to the accepted image without applying the replacement. Neither Clear nor Cancel edit alone removes the accepted answer.

Recover and check Reports

For a missing background, reconnect or ask the author to replace/clear it. For a failed save, strokes remain available. Reopen the drawing if needed, resolve the error, and select Save whiteboard again.

There is no keyboard-only drawing alternative; provide another method when pointer drawing is inaccessible.

Included Reports expose the saved image to people with Report access. Whiteboard cannot map to a Form question. Preview practice stays out of the Reports inbox. Check session synchronization for pending writes after acceptance.
