Whiteboard answers

Add a Whiteboard answer method when someone should draw, sketch, circle, or mark up an image while completing a Guide. Whiteboards work with a mouse, finger, or stylus on web, desktop, and mobile.

You need edit access to the Guide to configure this method. The completed drawing is saved with the Guide answer and can appear as image evidence in the Guide Report.

Add and configure a Whiteboard

1. Open the Guide in the editor and select the Field block that should collect the drawing.
2. Open Answer methods, select Add method, and choose Whiteboard.
3. Choose how the drawing surface should open:
   • Leave Show whiteboard inline off to open a full-screen drawing space.
   • Turn it on to keep the drawing surface inside the Field block.
4. Choose the Background color and Default marker color. People can switch marker colors while they draw; the default is only the first color.
5. Optionally choose or upload a Background image. It appears below the drawing and becomes part of the saved result. Clear the image when you want a blank whiteboard.
6. Save the block, then preview the Guide before sharing it.

A background image works well for diagrams, body maps, room layouts, or forms that need visual markup. Keep enough contrast between the background and the available marker colors. If freehand drawing would not be accessible for everyone, offer another answer method in the same Field block.

Complete a Whiteboard answer

For a full-screen Whiteboard, select Tap to Draw. An inline Whiteboard is ready on the page. Draw on the surface, select a marker color as needed, and use Undo to remove the newest stroke or Clear to start over.

Select Save whiteboard after drawing. CareMap saves the background and strokes together as one image and then shows a saved preview. If the method is required, this saved image satisfies its evidence requirement.

Select Edit whiteboard to update a saved answer. The saved image becomes the base for new strokes, so Undo affects only strokes added during the current edit. Use Clear, draw again, and save when the previous image should not remain. Cancel edit returns to the saved answer without applying the new strokes.

Fix common problems

• Save whiteboard is not available: Add at least one complete stroke. A blank Whiteboard cannot be saved.
• The background is unavailable: Reconnect and try again. If it remains unavailable, ask the Guide author to replace or clear the background image.
• The drawing could not be saved: Your current strokes remain on the Whiteboard. Check the connection and select Save whiteboard again.
• The wrong drawing was saved: Select Edit whiteboard. Add to the saved image, or clear it and draw a replacement before saving.
• A drawing is difficult to complete: The Guide author can switch between inline and full-screen presentation or provide another answer method.
