Skip answers

Use Skip to let someone explicitly opt out of a Field. A saved Skip satisfies that Field's response requirement while recording Skipped. It does not mean the activity was performed. Answers and media already saved through other methods in the same Field remain available.

Authors need Guide edit access to add this option. If the activity must be performed, review whether offering Skip is appropriate before making the Field required.

Configure Skip

1. Open the Field's Answer methods and choose Add answer method → Skip, or select the existing Skip method.
2. When multiple methods are present, customize its Button label, optional subtitle, and image through chooser settings.
3. Optionally configure an after-submit action. New Skip methods have no action.
4. Review Include in reports and Report wording. Set the Field's Response requirement, choose Save block, and test in Preview.

Skip cannot be used in a Field mapped to a Form question. See Form mapping compatibility.

Choose Skip

Among multiple methods, selecting the Skip button by touch, pointer, or keyboard immediately starts saving the skipped response. There is no second confirmation. An authored action runs after acceptance, using its configured timing. An accepted offline response is queued for synchronization; a failed save offers Retry save.

When Skip is the only method, the page shows an explicit Skip control. Opening the page never records Skip automatically. No configured Skip action runs in this sole-method case, including navigation actions.

Selecting an already saved Skip does not save again or repeat an action. Restoring or synchronizing a session also does not activate Skip.

Review or reset Skip

When the saved Skip response is open, it shows Skipped and Reset skipped response. Reset removes this method's current response so you can intentionally choose Skip again. If no other method has a valid saved answer, resetting can leave a required Field unanswered.

With Return to response methods enabled, accepting Skip leaves the chooser visible. Selecting the saved Skip again keeps that chooser; the reset view is not available through that selection. Other methods can still collect their own answers.

A new response visit can ask again when Reset after leaving page is enabled. Earlier visit history remains; see Field response lifetime.

Reports and recovery

Included Skip responses appear as Skipped in Reports and exports. Answer speech also says “Skipped.” Report inclusion does not change whether the saved Skip satisfies the Field requirement.

If saving or resetting fails, check the connection and retry. A failed response does not satisfy a required Field. If an action does not run, check whether Skip is the sole method or the response was already saved. Preview practice answers stay out of the Reports inbox.
