Courses and Learn

Courses and Learn overview

Build Courses or References, publish them to the Catalog, and use them in Learn.

Courses and References are learning projects that authors build in Library, publish through Catalog, and learners use in Learn.

Choose a Course or Reference

  • A Course presents Lessons in order. It can include lesson Quizzes and a final assessment, tracks progress, and issues a certificate when completed.
  • A Reference presents Chapters that readers can open in any order. It does not use assessments, track completion, or issue certificates.

Both modes can contain text, images, audio, video, and links to other Catalog resources. Authors can also set a cover image and visual appearance.

Build and publish learning content

You need edit access in the current Library workspace to create or change a Course or Reference.

  1. Open Library, use its create menu, and choose New Course or Reference.
  2. Choose the type, enter a name, and select Create Course or Create Reference.
  3. In the builder, configure Setup, add and order Lessons or Chapters, and add their content.
  4. Resolve every Publishing readiness message and wait for Saved.
  5. From the item's Library actions, choose Publish to Catalog. Create a new submission or publish the project as a new version of an eligible existing submission.

Preview lets an author check the experience without recording learner progress, assessment attempts, or certificates. A published Catalog version is a separate snapshot; later draft changes do not alter a learner's selected version until another version is published and the learner changes to it.

Use content in Learn

Learn requires content access. A learner opens an active Course or Reference in Catalog, selects Add to Learn, and chooses an available approved version.

In Learn:

  • Courses contains active Courses with Start or Continue actions and a lesson-progress indicator.
  • References appears when a Reference has been added and opens its Chapters without a progress indicator.
  • Completed appears after a Course is finished and keeps it available for read-only review.
  • Certifications appears when the account has issued certificates.

Fix common problems

  • Course / Reference is unavailable in Library: Confirm that you have edit access to the current workspace and that storage authoring is available.
  • Publish to Catalog is missing: Resolve Publishing readiness messages and confirm that you can publish for the selected account or organization.
  • Add to Learn is unavailable: The Catalog item must be active and have an approved, non-discontinued version, and your account needs content access.
  • An expected Learn section is missing: References, Completed, and Certifications appear only when they contain relevant items.
