Read a Reference in Learn

Add a Reference, move freely between chapters, resume your position, and manage its selected version.

A Reference provides freely navigated Chapters. It uses the same text and media items as a Course, but has no quizzes, final exam, tracked completion, or certificate.

Your account needs a License that permits content use and access to the Catalog listing when adding it.

Add and open a Reference

  1. Open Catalog > References.
  2. Open an accessible active listing and review its current version.
  3. Select Add Reference.
  4. After it succeeds, select Open in Learn, or open Learn > References.
  5. Select Open on its card.
  6. Choose any chapter in the outline.

The Catalog action adds the current approved version directly. You do not choose a Library folder, and adding it does not create an editable Library copy. There is one Learn item per Catalog listing for your account.

The References tab appears only when you have a Reference. If it is missing, check whether the addition succeeded and whether you are signed into the expected account.

Read and resume

All chapters are available in any order. Selecting a chapter saves that position. Reopening normally returns to the last available chapter; otherwise it opens the first available chapter.

There is no Complete Lesson action or completion percentage. Reading every chapter does not move a Reference into Completed or issue a certificate.

Images, audio, and video appear inside chapters. Use Retry media if offered for an unavailable resource. YouTube videos also offer Open on YouTube. Supplemental Catalog links check their own audience; opening a Reference does not grant access to every linked resource.

The Learn search field filters the current tab by title, description, or publisher. Clear the search if an expected Reference is absent.

Keep or change a version

Learn retains the selected published version. A new publisher release does not automatically replace it.

Use Selected version, then Change Version, to choose another available release. Select Latest, when offered, changes the selection first; you still apply it with Change Version. A Reference replacement can happen without a progress confirmation and resets the saved chapter position.

If the replacement release is a Course, the Learn item follows Course behavior instead. Review the intended version before switching. See Course releases and updates.

Remove or regain access

Use Remove from Learn if you no longer want the Reference. Removal clears its saved position; adding it again starts a new entry.

A discontinued or inaccessible Catalog listing does not automatically erase an already saved Reference. Open it directly in Learn. If Learn is paused because content-use access is missing, restore that account access; the selected version and position remain stored.
