Course setup and lessons

Configure Course details and arrange lessons in the intended order.

Use the Course builder to configure a project, organize its lessons, and check whether it is ready to publish. A Reference calls its sections Chapters.

Configure the project

  1. With edit access, open the Course or Reference in Library, then select Setup in the builder.
  2. Enter its Name and optional Description.
  3. Choose the Mode:
    • Course uses ordered Lessons, tracked completion, assessments, and a completion certificate.
    • Reference uses freely navigated Chapters without assessments or Course completion.
  4. Optionally choose a Cover image, Accent color, and Background.
  5. For a Course, choose when its certificate expires or leave Never expires.

Changing a Course to Reference mode requires confirmation when assessments are present. The change deletes every lesson Quiz and the final exam, preserves the other lesson content, and relabels Lessons as Chapters. Switching back to Course mode does not restore the deleted assessments.

Add and arrange lessons

  1. Select the add control beside Lessons or Chapters.
  2. Open the new section and enter its Lesson title or Chapter title and an optional Short description.
  3. Under Add content, add the text, media, Catalog resource, or Quiz items the section needs. Quizzes are available only in Courses.
  4. Use the up and down controls to set the learner-facing order.
  5. To remove a section, select its delete control and confirm. Add another section first if this is the only one.

Check and save the setup

Publishing readiness lists anything that prevents publication. A project needs a name and at least one lesson or chapter; every section needs a title and at least one content item. Media, Catalog resources, and assessments must also have their required setup. Resolve the list until it shows Ready to publish.

CareMap autosaves changes and shows Saving or Saved in the header. Preview waits for pending changes to save and does not create learner progress or a certificate.

Fix common problems

  • A change did not save: Select Retry save. The current draft remains available while you retry.
  • CareMap says the Course changed elsewhere: Select Reload latest and review the current version. This replaces the local conflicting draft.
  • Publishing readiness still lists a section: Give it a title, add a content item, and complete any setup still listed, then wait for Saved.
  • Quiz or final-exam content disappeared: Check whether the project was changed to Reference mode. Those assessments are removed during conversion and must be recreated after switching back to Course mode.
