Recover unsaved Course and Reference drafts

Review a device recovery copy before replacing the current Course or Reference, or download it for safekeeping.

Saved drafts keeps recovery copies of unsaved Course or Reference edits on the current device. These copies are separate from the saved Library project, published releases, and learner progress.

You must still be able to open the active project for editing. A retained copy does not restore access to a project that became unavailable.

Review a retained draft

  1. Open the Course or Reference builder on the device where you worked.
  2. Select Saved drafts and choose a row by its update time and version.
  3. Read the text preview and any warning that the saved content or its location changed.
  4. Select Review draft to bring that copy into the editor.
  5. Inspect and edit the recovered content while Reviewing recovered draft is shown.
  6. Choose Save reviewed draft to save it, or Use saved version to return to the current server version.

Automatic saving pauses during review. Your previous unsaved work remains available as a separate recovery draft. Selecting Review does not change the shared project.

Save reviewed draft replaces the current project definition with the reviewed content; it does not merge versions. Recheck lessons, assessments, media, appearance, and project mode. If a recovered Reference would remove assessments from a saved Course, CareMap asks you to confirm that conversion.

Wait for Saved after confirming. A later competing edit can still cause a conflict; follow Course saving recovery.

Download or discard a copy

Select a row and choose Download draft to save a JSON recovery file. The text preview is a summary; the download retains more of the authored information.

The panel has no import action for this file. It is not a .course package, complete media backup, or transfer of learner activity. Use Course export for a portable project.

Use Discard saved draft only when you no longer need that recovery copy. Discarding does not delete the saved Library project. The currently active draft cannot be discarded through this panel. If the selected version changed, refresh the panel and review its latest row before trying again.

Successful saving clears the acknowledged recovery copies, while drafts from other editor sessions can remain.

Understand recovery limits

Drafts do not automatically follow you to another device, browser profile, or account. Clearing app or site data can remove them.

If local storage fails, server saving may still work. Keep the editor open, download the draft, and use Retry saving drafts. That button retries the device backup; it does not replace Retry save for the Course itself.

Unsupported drafts can remain downloadable even when Review fails. Media references must still be available, and unfinished image transfers are not guaranteed to resume after reopening. Replace unavailable images before saving.
