Import a Course or Reference package
Preview a .course archive, restore an independent editable project, and recover failed imports.
Import Course or Reference restores a portable .course archive as a new editable Library project. The archive determines whether the result is a Course or a Reference.
You need edit access to the destination, content authoring permission, and available workspace capacity. The archive must be no larger than 25 MiB (26,214,400 bytes).
Preview and import
- Open the intended Library source and folder.
- Select More Library actions > Import Course or Reference.
- Check Destination.
- Select Choose .course archive and wait for upload and preview.
- Review the proposed name, lessons, content items, assessments, questions, options, bundled assets, and any warnings or blockers.
- When Ready to import appears, select Import as new Course or Import as new Reference.
- Review the new project in the editor.
Changing Destination keeps the uploaded archive and automatically requests a new preview. Wait for it before confirming. If preview fails, Retry checks that upload again.
You can also select or drop project files through Library file import. With several queued packages, the next preview opens before the final imported project's editor.
Understand the new copy
Import creates a separate project and independent managed media. It does not
replace the source, merge with an existing project, or copy folder sharing.
A name conflict receives a suffix such as (2); the destination's access rules
apply.
Course/Reference mode, authored lessons or chapters, assessments, answer keys, appearance, and applicable certificate settings are retained. Learner activity, issued certificates, enrollments, and publication history are excluded.
A valid import can still need authoring work before publication. Test the content, answers, links, and media, then review publishing readiness. Import success is not Catalog approval.
Check media and links
Every authored managed-media asset must be included and readable. Missing, unsupported, or incomplete media blocks import; obtain a fresh complete export.
External media URLs stay external. Catalog links are retained even when unavailable to the importing account, with a warning. Import grants no access to those listings. Review the links using the intended learner's access.
Recover without creating another copy
After a lost confirmation response, retry in the same dialog with the same uploaded archive and destination. If creation already committed, CareMap returns the existing project, provided the required access remains.
Once import has started, that upload belongs to its original destination. Upload the archive again only when deliberately making another copy or when the message requires it because the upload expired, failed validation, or reached its attempt limit.
A fresh upload starts another import. Check Library before doing that after an uncertain result. If the imported project was removed, retry does not restore it automatically.
