Quizzes and final assessments

Courses can use one Quiz per lesson and an optional Final exam. References have neither. You need Course editing access and workspace authoring and storage available to configure assessments.

Choose the requirement

A lesson Quiz must be passed before Complete Lesson becomes available. A final exam becomes available after all lessons are complete.

Without a final exam, completing the last lesson finishes the Course. With one, learners must also pass that exam. Completion issues a certificate.

For lesson-level setup, use Lesson quiz items. For answering and retakes, use Take a Course quiz or final exam.

Configure the final exam

1. Open the Course builder and select Final exam in the outline.
2. Enter a Title and whole-number Passing score from 1 to 100.
3. Enter a Question prompt and at least two labeled answers.
4. Mark exactly one Correct answer.
5. Optionally add an explanation shown after submission.
6. Use Question and Answer to add more content.
7. Wait for Saved, resolve Publishing readiness issues, and use Preview.

Selecting Final exam when none exists creates one immediately in the draft. The new assessment starts at 75%, with an empty question and placeholder answers. Finish it or choose Remove final exam before publishing.

Remove final exam removes it directly; there is no separate confirmation. Question deletion also acts directly. Changes follow Course autosaving.

Check publication and scoring

Publishing readiness requires at least one question, a nonblank prompt for each question, at least two labeled choices with no blanks, and exactly one correct answer. Empty explanations are allowed.

Each question contributes equally to the score. Learn calculates the percentage correct to three decimal places and compares it to the configured threshold.

An invalid Passing score can prevent saving the draft itself. Correct it and use Retry save if necessary. Other incomplete question content can be saved while you work but must be completed to publish.

Understand the current Preview limits

Preview is temporary and creates no learner history. Its final exam unlocks after you complete all lessons in that preview.

Preview rounds scores to whole percentages. A result near the passing threshold can therefore differ from Learn; two out of three is 66.667% in Learn and does not meet 67%, even if Preview shows 67%.

Shuffle questions and Shuffle answers are saved settings, but the current learner and Preview screens retain authored question and answer order.

Maintain the assessment

Publish a new release to deliver changed questions or thresholds; editing the Library draft does not rewrite existing Learn versions.

After completion, learners can review saved feedback but cannot submit another attempt in that completed run. Recertify starts another Course run.

Changing a Course to Reference deletes its Quizzes and final exam. Converting back to Course does not recreate them.
