Quizzes and final assessments

Assessments let a Course check understanding with a Quiz inside a lesson or an optional Final exam after all lessons. References do not use assessments.

Choose the assessment type

• Add a Quiz when a learner must pass a knowledge check before selecting Complete Lesson. A Course can have one Quiz in each lesson.
• Add a Final exam when learners should pass one assessment after completing every lesson. The final exam is optional; without one, completing the last lesson completes the Course.

Configure an assessment

You need edit access to the Course.

1. In the Course builder, either select a lesson and choose Quiz under Add content, or select Final exam in the Course outline.
2. Enter a title and a whole-number Passing score from 1 to 100.
3. Enter the first Question and at least two labeled Answer choices.
4. Select the one Correct answer for that question.
5. Optionally add an explanation to show after submission.
6. Add more answers or questions as needed, and choose whether to Shuffle questions or Shuffle answers.
7. Wait for Saved, resolve any Publishing readiness messages, and use Preview to test both passing and unsuccessful attempts.

Preview attempts are temporary. They do not create learner progress, recorded attempts, Course completion, or a certificate.

What learners experience

Learners must answer every question before Submit answers becomes available. After each submission, CareMap shows the score, attempt number, which answers were correct, which answers need review, and any explanations you added. Retakes are unlimited.

A learner must pass a lesson Quiz before completing that lesson. The Final exam remains locked until every lesson is complete. Passing it completes the Course and issues the completion certificate. After Course completion, assessments are available for review but cannot be submitted again unless the learner starts Recertify.

Fix common problems

• Publishing readiness lists an assessment: Make sure it has at least one question, every question has a prompt and at least two labeled answers, and exactly one answer is marked correct.
• Submit answers is unavailable: Choose one answer for every question.
• Complete Lesson is unavailable: Pass that lesson's Quiz first.
• Final exam is locked: Complete every lesson, including any required lesson Quiz.
• An assessment disappeared: Check whether the project was changed to a Reference. That conversion removes every lesson Quiz and the final exam; they are not restored automatically if the project is changed back to a Course.
