Import and export
Move supported CareMap content into or out of Library.
Use Library packages to move a Guide or Form between CareMap workspaces without rebuilding it by hand. A package import creates a new item in the destination; it does not replace the original item or merge into an existing one.
Package import and export are different from uploading ordinary documents. Use Upload Files when you only need to add a PDF, image, or other file to Library.
Before you start
- Open the Library workspace and folder where the content belongs.
- Import options are available only when the workspace allows authoring and you have Owner or Read-write access to the destination folder.
- A Guide package can be exported by someone who can access that Guide. A Form package includes answer keys, so Export Form is available only to people who can edit the Form.
- Store package files with the same care as the content they contain. Do not send them through an unapproved support or sharing channel.
Export a Guide
- Open Library and find the Guide.
- Open the Guide action menu and select Export package.
- Wait for the package status to become Succeeded. Select Refresh if you need to check the job again.
- Select Download.
CareMap saves a portable .guide archive containing the Guide structure,
Field methods, route references, and supported bundled assets. The dialog also
shows recent package processing and the generated file's asset count and size.
Export a Form
- Open the Form action menu and select Export Form.
- Wait while CareMap prepares the package.
- Select Download .form when the status is succeeded.
The .form archive contains the Form definition, answer keys, record bindings,
cover, and display images. Completed responses and reports are never included.
If preparation fails and another attempt is available, select Retry.
On the web, the browser downloads the package. The desktop app asks where to save it, and the mobile app opens the device share sheet so you can save or share it with an approved destination.
Import a Guide package
- Open Library and choose the destination workspace and folder.
- Open More Library actions, then select Import Guide.
- Confirm the editable Destination folder and choose the
.guidearchive. - Review the proposed Guide name, record and asset counts, warnings, and any blockers.
- If the preview is ready, select Import guide.
CareMap validates the package before enabling import. A blocker prevents the
import; a warning describes something to review but may still allow it. The
new Guide receives fresh internal IDs. If the destination already contains a
Guide with the same name, the preview shows a conflict-safe name such as
Guide name import or Guide name import 2.
Import a Form package
- Open the destination folder and choose More Library actions > Import Form.
- Choose an editable destination and select Choose .form archive.
- Review the proposed Form name, sections, fields, options, images, record bindings, bundled assets, warnings, and blockers.
- Select Import as new Form when the preview says Ready to import.
The imported Form receives fresh internal IDs. If its name is already in use,
CareMap adds a numeric suffix such as (2). Responses and reports are not
created by the import because they are not part of a Form package.
If import or export does not finish
- If an import option is missing, confirm that the current workspace allows authoring and that you have Owner or Read-write access to the folder.
- If a package is blocked, read the preview findings. Use a fresh export from the source when the archive is invalid, incomplete, or contains assets you cannot access.
- If an export fails, read the recorded reason. Refresh a Guide export or use Retry for a Form export when that action is offered.
- If the item was imported but is not visible, clear Library search or type filters, then refresh Library and check the destination folder shown in the preview.
- Keep CareMap open while a package is being prepared, uploaded, validated, or imported.
