Import and export Guide packages

Transfer a Guide with supported media, review recovery warnings, and manage export downloads.

Guide packages transfer a Guide's structure, Field methods, route references, and supported bundled assets. They do not transfer completed runs or Reports.

Export a Guide

  1. Find the Guide in Library.
  2. Open its actions menu and select Export package.
  3. Wait for Succeeded and review the generated filename, asset count, and size.
  4. Select Download and complete your device's save flow.

Viewing access to the source Guide is required. The dialog shows recent package processing. Refresh reads the current job and history; it does not restart a failed export. After resolving a failure, close and reopen Export package to request another export.

If downloading or saving fails after the package is ready, retry the download. Web uses browser downloads, desktop asks for a save location, and mobile opens the share sheet. Check the resulting file or destination.

Import a package

  1. Open the destination Library and folder.
  2. Select More Library actions > Import Guide.
  3. Check Destination folder.
  4. Choose a .guide archive or supported CareMap Guide package JSON.
  5. Review the proposed name, record and asset counts, and findings.
  6. Confirm Import guide when the preview is ready and its warnings are acceptable.

The package must be no larger than 25 MiB (26,214,400 bytes). A generic JSON document is not automatically a Guide package.

Import requires edit access, authoring permission, and storage capacity in the destination. Changing the destination requests a new preview; wait for that preview before confirming.

Understand the preview

A blocker prevents import. Warnings can allow import with changes: unsupported blocks or methods may be omitted, invalid values repaired, and missing, unsupported, or inaccessible media skipped. A ready preview does not guarantee that every feature or asset survived.

Name conflicts produce a proposed name such as Guide name import or Guide name import 2. Import creates a new Guide with new identities and opens its editor. It does not replace the source or transfer its sharing grants.

Review the imported pages, routes, answers offered by Field methods, and media. Test the Guide before assigning or sharing it.

Recover from a failure

If the archive is unreadable or its format unsupported, use a fresh supported export. If the uploaded package expires, select the local file again.

Confirm the destination's access and allowance if confirmation fails. After a lost response, inspect Library before repeating the import.

If source access is removed, the export dialog clears unavailable job details and disables access. Close it and refresh Library after access is restored. An already saved package is a separate file.
