Text blocks

Use a Text block to show written instructions or information on a Guide page. You need edit access to the Guide to add or change one.

A Text block presents content but does not collect an answer. Use a Field block instead when the player needs to respond.

Add a Text block

1. Open the Guide in the editor and select Add block on the appropriate page, then choose Text. You can also select Edit on an existing Text block.
2. Enter a clear Name. The name helps identify the block in the editor.
3. Under Text content, write what the player should read. Use the formatting controls for headings, emphasis, lists, links, code, or a table when those structures make the content easier to follow.
4. Use Rich text for normal editing. Source is available when you need to review or adjust the underlying Markdown.
5. If spoken or accessibility support needs different wording, open Speech. You can set a Spoken text override, choose or upload speech audio, select a Cloud voice, and add an accessibility label or hint.
6. Select Save block, then preview the Guide on the devices your players will use.

CareMap shows a severe Guide warning when Text content has no visible words. Add useful content before previewing or sharing the Guide.

Write clear content

Keep each Text block focused on one instruction or idea. Use meaningful headings and short lists for longer guidance. Give links descriptive wording, and do not rely on color, formatting, or a spoken version alone to communicate essential information.

In preview and player mode, CareMap renders the saved formatting rather than the Markdown symbols. The block appears in the page's authored order. Its Speak block control can use recorded audio, prepared cloud speech, or device speech. The player remains in control of starting, pausing, or stopping it.

Fix common problems

• Text is unavailable or a warning appears: Open the block and add visible Text content, then save again.
• Formatting looks wrong: Compare Rich text and Source, correct any incomplete formatting, and preview again.
• The spoken version is outdated: Update the Text content or the Spoken text override. Replace or remove custom speech audio when it no longer matches.
• The block is hard to understand with assistive technology: Simplify its structure and review the accessibility label and hint under Speech.
