Media blocks

Use a Media block to show an image or let a player watch a video or listen to audio on a Guide page. You need edit access to the Guide to add or change a Media block.

Choose the right media type

• Image shows a picture, diagram, symbol, or other visual. Add useful Alt text and turn on Show caption when visible supporting text is needed.
• Video plays an uploaded or reused video, or an available YouTube or Vimeo embed. Playback settings control whether CareMap requests autoplay and whether the video starts muted.
• Audio plays an uploaded or reused recording. Audio starts only when the player uses its controls.

Add a Media block

1. Open the Guide in the editor and add or select a Media block on the appropriate page.
2. Enter a clear Name for the block.
3. Under Media type, select Image, Video, or Audio.
4. Choose or upload the source, then complete the settings shown for that media type. Add a caption when the player needs context or written instructions.
5. Wait for any upload to finish, then select Save block.
6. Preview the Guide and check the media, caption, controls, and sound in context before sharing it.

Changing Media type clears the previous source and settings that belong to the old type. Choose the new source and review every setting before saving.

Understand media states

An upload can finish before CareMap finishes processing the file. Wait for the ready status before expecting the media to appear in preview or player mode. Save block is unavailable while an upload is running.

If the editor reports that processing failed or the asset is missing, replace the source and save again. When media is ready but does not play, preview again after refreshing and check the device connection, volume, and browser or device playback controls. Embedded video also depends on the provider's availability and permissions.
