Videos in Guides
Play supported video content inside a Guide or open an available fallback.
Use a Video Media block when a Guide player should watch a video on the page. You can upload a file, reuse a video already available in the Guide, or embed a supported YouTube or Vimeo link.
You need edit access to the Guide to add, replace, or remove a video. Embedded videos need an internet connection and follow the provider's availability, privacy, advertising, and playback rules.
Add a video to a Guide
- Open the Guide in the editor and add or select a Media block on the page.
- Set Media type to Video.
- Enter a clear Name and add a Video caption when the player needs context or written instructions.
- Select Choose video, then choose one source:
- Choose file from this computer uploads an MP4, MOV, or WebM file.
- Choose from this guide reuses a video from the same Guide.
- Embed accepts a YouTube or Vimeo link. Check the detected provider and preview, then select Use embedded video.
- Under Playback, turn on Auto-play on page entry if the video should start when the page opens. Turn on Muted if it should start without sound.
- Select Save block, then test it in Guide preview. The preview inside the block editor never autoplays.
Uploading video means the transfer is running, and Save block is unavailable. Processing can continue afterward while you edit. Preview again when Video ready appears. A failed or missing asset needs a replacement.
What players see
A ready upload provides playback, sound, and seeking controls. Full-screen availability depends on the browser or device. Embeds use the provider's controls. The Video caption appears below the player.
Browsers and devices may block autoplay even when it is enabled. CareMap then asks the player to use the controls. Muted autoplay is more likely to work, but the player can always start the video manually.
If an embed cannot play in CareMap, the message may offer Open on YouTube or Open on Vimeo in a new window. Private, removed, password-protected, or embedding-disabled videos can remain unavailable.
Replace or remove a video
Open the Video Media block. Use Replace video or Change video source to choose another source, or Remove video to clear it. Save and preview again.
Fix common problems
- The file is not accepted: Convert it to MP4, MOV, or WebM, then upload the converted copy.
- Video processing failed or the asset is missing: Choose or upload a replacement and wait for Video ready.
- The provider link is invalid: Paste a valid YouTube or Vimeo video link.
- The embed is unavailable: Check the connection, privacy, and embedding settings. Use the provider fallback when it appears.
- Autoplay did not start: Use the visible play control. Device and browser autoplay rules can override the Guide setting.
- There is no sound: Check Muted, the video controls, device volume, and the selected speaker or headphones.
