Audio in Guides

Add an audio recording that a player can listen to on a Guide page.

Use an Audio Media block when a Guide player should listen to an uploaded recording without leaving the page. Audio starts only when the player chooses the play control; it does not start automatically.

You need edit access to the Guide to add, replace, or remove audio.

Add audio to a Guide

  1. Open the Guide in the editor and add or select a Media block on the appropriate page.
  2. Set Media type to Audio.
  3. Enter a clear Name for the block. Add a Media caption when it will help the player understand the recording. The caption also gives the audio player a more descriptive accessible label.
  4. Select Choose audio to reuse an available audio file, or select Upload audio and choose a file from your device.
  5. Follow the visible status. Uploading audio means the transfer is still running. After processing finishes, Audio ready appears and the editor provides playback controls for a check.
  6. Select Save block, then preview the Guide and listen through the whole recording before sharing it.

CareMap accepts AAC, M4A, MP3, OGG, WAV, and WebM audio files. If a file is not accepted, convert it to one of these formats and upload the converted copy.

What players see

A ready recording appears with audio controls. The player can start or pause the recording and move through it using the controls provided by their browser or device. A waveform may appear when one is available. The Media caption is shown below the audio player.

Audio does not autoplay. This gives the player control over when sound begins. Use a concise caption that identifies the recording, and provide the important information in writing elsewhere on the page when someone may not be able to hear it.

Replace or remove audio

Open the Audio Media block in the editor. Use Replace audio to choose another available recording, or Upload replacement audio to add a new file. Use Remove audio when the block should no longer point to a recording. Review the new status and select Save block.

Fix common problems

  • Audio processing failed: Choose or upload a replacement recording, then save the block again.
  • Audio asset missing: The selected file is no longer available. Use Choose audio or Upload replacement audio to reconnect the block.
  • Audio unavailable in the player: Confirm that the block points to the intended file and wait for Audio ready, then preview again.
  • The recording has no sound: Check the audio player's volume, the device volume, and the selected speaker, headphones, or hearing device.
  • Save block is unavailable: Wait for the current upload to finish. The button becomes available after the upload completes.
