Images in Guides

An Image Media block shows a picture, diagram, or symbol on a Guide page. You need Guide editing access to change it.

Add or replace an image

1. Add or edit a Media block and set Media type to Image.
2. Select Choose image. For an existing image, select its image area, labeled Choose replacement image.
3. Choose an available image source.
4. Add Alt text, then review size, fit, caption, and any tap action.
5. Wait for the upload to finish and select Save block.
6. Preview when the status is Image ready.

Local uploads support PNG, JPEG, GIF, or WebP, up to 50 MB (50,000,000 bytes) per file. Convert other formats before uploading, even if your device's file chooser lets you select them. You can drop one image onto the image area.

Remove image clears the block's image selection when you save; it does not delete the original image or other uses.

Choose size and fit

Image size offers Small, Medium, or Large. It controls the authored size; the player's Guide image preference can make it smaller or larger without editing the block.

Image fit offers:

• Show whole image: keeps the entire picture visible, with space around it when its proportions differ from the available area.
• Fill space: fills the area and can crop the edges.

New image blocks start with Large and Show whole image. Preview on a narrow screen and make sure cropping does not hide meaningful details.

Describe the image and add a caption

Alt text describes the image's purpose or essential information for assistive technology. Use meaningful words rather than a filename. An explicit Accessibility label in Speech takes priority over Alt text, so keep those descriptions consistent.

Turn on Show caption to write supporting text below the image. The caption supports rich text and is separate from Alt text and the block name. Keep important instructions available as written content.

Preview after turning Show caption off. If a previously formatted caption remains visible, turn the setting back on, clear its content, save, then turn it off and save again. Recheck the result before sharing.

Allow fullscreen expansion

Turn on Allow fullscreen expansion to let players open a larger view. With no On tap action, activating the image opens it. With an On tap action, the separate expansion button opens the larger view.

The expanded view shows the whole image. Use Close expanded image, Escape, or Back to close it. This closes the image viewer without using a Guide navigation button.

Add an image tap action

Leave On tap as None for a non-action image. Otherwise choose an outcome and complete its destination, wording, and timing. The choices use the page-outcome controls, but activation comes from tapping this image. For Speak, enter the words to speak.

Finish every required field before saving: an incomplete edit can leave the previous valid action in place. Reopen the saved block to verify it, then test both Preview and normal Play. Required answers can block navigation in Play, and delayed actions apply only while their playback context remains current.

If the image fails or is missing, choose another supported source and save. If the picker is empty, follow image-source recovery.
