Images in Guides

Show an accessible image and optional caption in a Guide.

Use an Image Media block to show a picture, diagram, symbol, or other visual on a Guide page. You need edit access to the Guide to add, replace, or remove an image.

Add an image to a Guide

  1. Open the Guide in the editor and add or select a Media block on the appropriate page.
  2. Set Media type to Image.
  3. Enter a clear Name for the block.
  4. Select Choose image. In Choose image source, choose an available source:
    • Choose file from this computer uploads an image from your device.
    • From Library reuses a readable image from a Guide, Form, or uploaded Library file.
    • Pixabay searches safe-search photos when that source is available.
    • Code-set images browses available vocabulary images.
  5. Enter concise Alt text that describes the image's purpose or essential information for someone using a screen reader.
  6. To show supporting text below the image, turn on Show caption and enter a Media caption. Keep the caption useful to everyone; do not use it as a substitute for Alt text.
  7. Select Save block, then preview the page to check the image, Alt text, and optional caption in context.

Source choices can vary with your access and the current CareMap setup. For a local upload, use a PNG, JPEG, GIF, or WebP image at or below 50 MB. Save block remains unavailable while the upload is running. The image may continue processing after the upload finishes; it appears in preview and player mode when its status is Image ready.

Write useful image text

Alt text labels the image for assistive technology. Describe what the image communicates in the context of the Guide, using a short sentence or phrase. Avoid filenames and unnecessary phrases such as "image of."

The Media caption is visible below the image only when Show caption is on. Use it for instructions, context, or a credit that every player should see. Important directions should also appear as written page content so the Guide does not depend on the image alone.

Replace or remove an image

Open the Image Media block and select Replace image to choose another source. Select Remove image when the block should no longer point to an image. Review the Alt text and caption after changing the image, then select Save block.

Fix common problems

  • Image processing failed: Select Replace image and choose or upload a different supported image.
  • Image asset missing: The linked image is no longer available. Select a replacement source and save the block again.
  • A source is unavailable or empty: Choose another available source. For Library images, confirm that you can read the original content.
  • The image does not appear in preview: Wait for Image ready, then refresh the preview. If it remains unavailable, replace the image.
  • Save block is unavailable: Wait for the current upload to finish.
