Guide structure
Understand Guide sequences, pages, blocks, and start behavior.
CareMap organizes authored content in one nested structure:
Guide
Sequence
Page
Block
You need Guide authoring access and permission to edit its Library folder to change this structure. People with play-only or read-only access can use the Guide but do not see the same authoring controls.
Understand each level
- A Guide is the complete experience. Guide settings control its identity, default behavior, and completion experience.
- A Sequence is an ordered flow within the Guide. One sequence is marked Start.
- A Page is an ordered screen within a sequence. A page holds the content someone sees and uses at that step.
- A Block is one content or interaction unit on a page, such as Text, a Field question, a Router choice, an Image, Video, or Audio item.
Build the structure
- Open the Guide from Library and select Edit.
- Use Sequence > Add sequence to add a flow. Select Make start sequence on the sequence that should begin the Guide.
- Use Page > Add page to add a screen inside the active sequence.
- Select Add block on the page canvas, then choose or search for the content or interaction you need.
- Open the Organizer to review and reorder sequences. Use Page organizer to reorder pages in the active sequence.
On wider screens, the editor outline also lets you select sequences, pages, and blocks. On smaller screens, the focused editor menus and Organizer provide the same structural actions.
Control where playback begins
Play and full-Guide Preview begin at the first page of the Start sequence. Page order and any configured navigation routes determine what can be reached after that. Reordering a sequence or page changes authored order; it does not automatically repair a route that points somewhere else.
Use Preview after structural changes. Test every path, especially routes that leave the current page or move into another sequence.
Review structural warnings
Open Warnings before scheduling or playing a Guide. CareMap can identify a missing start sequence, an empty reachable page, unavailable route, unreachable content, or a path with no usable next step.
Severe launch blockers must be fixed before Play or Schedule can continue. Other warnings can be reviewed and accepted, but they may still describe a path that users cannot reach as intended.
Fix common problems
- If the Guide has no starting point, select a sequence and choose Make start sequence.
- If a page says it is not playable, add at least one usable block or route players around that page.
- If content appears in the wrong order, use the relevant Organizer instead of recreating it.
- If a sequence or page is unreachable, check the start sequence, authored order, and navigation routes, then Preview the path again.
