Undo and Redo Guide edits

Reverse recent saved Guide changes and understand session, conflict, and keyboard limits.

Undo and Redo let you reverse recent saved authoring actions in the Guide editor. They apply to available changes in the current editor session. They are not a permanent version history for restoring any past Guide revision.

You need the same editing permission and workspace availability as for the original change. Undo performs another save, so a connection, access, or save failure can prevent it from completing.

Reverse a recent action

  1. Stay in the Guide editor after the change you want to reverse.
  2. Find Undo in the toolbar. On a phone, open More > Undo.
  3. Read the action label to check what will be reversed, such as a page rename or sequence reorder.
  4. Select Undo and wait for the action to finish.
  5. Check the resulting content and selection. Use Redo if you want to restore the action you just undid.

Recorded actions include adding, duplicating, deleting, renaming, and reordering sequences or pages; moving a page between sequences; changing the Start sequence; and supported saved settings and block edits. Use the current label as your guide to what is available, rather than assuming every action in the application belongs to this history.

Deleting a final page or sequence creates blank replacement content. When that deletion remains undoable, Undo replaces the blank content with the removed content. Review Guide organization for these deletion behaviors, and Preview again after restoring a routed path.

Use keyboard shortcuts

ActionShortcut
UndoCtrl+Z or Command+Z
RedoCtrl+Shift+Z or Command+Shift+Z
Redo alternativeCtrl+Y or Command+Y

When focus is in a text input, text editor, selection control, or other editable text area, these shortcuts retain that control's normal undo behavior. To reverse a saved Guide action instead, use the Guide toolbar or More menu, or move focus outside the text entry control first.

Understand history limits

The editor keeps up to 40 recorded actions in its current history. Recording a new action clears the available redo stack. Closing or reloading the editor loses this in-memory history; reopening the Guide does not offer the previous session's Undo list.

Guide settings Undo does not restore an earlier cover image. Open Guide settings and select the desired image again when you need to change it back.

Changes to affected content elsewhere can make an entry unavailable. For example, a changed page set can invalidate an old page reorder, and changed contents can invalidate restoration of a deleted item. The message or disabled control may identify the part that changed. Check the current Guide and coordinate the desired result before making a fresh edit.

If Undo or Redo is unavailable

There may be no recorded action, an action may still be applying, or the editor may need to resolve a conflict or refresh its connection to the service. Read the available notice and wait for a pending save before trying again. If an undo save fails, inspect the error and current content; do not assume the action was reversed.

Unsaved dialog drafts have their own save and discard controls. Use those controls for draft work rather than expecting Guide Undo to recover an unsubmitted dialog.

For retained unsaved work after the original item was removed, check Restore content from a Guide draft. Draft recovery and the current session’s Undo history are separate tools.
