Research a Smart PDF answer with AI

Request one field suggestion, inspect its evidence, and add it to the draft for human review.

Research answers appears in a Smart PDF draft when its saved layout contains research-enabled text or checkbox fields. AI researches one selected field per request. Signature fields always require human input.

You need Profile Documents write access, access to usable evidence, and eligible AI funding. Runs belong to the shared draft, so other authorized profile writers can see their status and open results when their own source access permits it.

Request a suggestion

  1. Open the person's saved Smart PDF draft.
  2. Save answer edits and attach or clear pending signature drawing.
  3. Under Research answers, choose Field to research.
  4. Select Research field….
  5. Read Research this field?, including the current credit quote and any warning that applying the result will replace this field's saved answer.
  6. Select Confirm AI charge, or Cancel to leave without starting a run.

Research uses the sources and dates saved in the layout. It does not fill every field at once. Other answers remain unchanged. You can continue manually without requesting AI.

Status updates while work runs. Refresh research reloads status without starting another charged request. Closing the editor does not cancel saved work; return to the draft or Research history later. A field cannot start another research run while its existing research or billing remains pending.

Read and apply

  1. Select View suggestion when a result is ready.
  2. Read the explanation and proposed value in Research suggestion.
  3. Use Read source 1, and subsequent source buttons, to inspect the evidence.
  4. Choose Add to draft for review if you want to use the result.
  5. Check the answer in the draft and select Review [field label] when correct.

Adding a result saves it as an AI suggestion; it does not approve it or complete the document. A reviewed suggestion keeps its origin and citations. Editing the answer manually replaces that evidence with your manual answer.

A result can instead say Needs an answer or explain that sources conflict. Enter your own supported answer to resolve it. If you apply such a result to a previously answered field, the unresolved result replaces that saved value too; inspect it before applying.

When results change or fail

If the field changed after research began, CareMap prevents the old result from overwriting it. Changed or inaccessible evidence can also prevent opening or applying a result. Review the current answer and sources before requesting fresh research, which requires a new charge confirmation.

A completed AI request can incur a charge even without a useful answer. See billing and research recovery.
