Start and save a Smart PDF draft
Create a profile document from a Library Smart PDF, save answers, and return to unfinished work.
Smart PDF drafts let you fill a saved Library PDF layout for a person. Open the person's Documents tab and find Profile Documents.
Access and storage
You need Profile Documents write access to start, continue, or discard drafts. View-only access covers completed files and their saved answers, not unfinished drafts. The profile access rules apply to owners, Guardians, care teams, organization Staff, and contacts.
Starting a new draft also requires access to its Library folder. The picker can show accessible Smart PDFs across Libraries. Saved drafts are shared with people who have write access to that profile; they are not private to their creator. Draft content and generated PDFs use the profile owner's personal storage.
Start a document
- Select New document from Smart PDF.
- In Choose a Smart PDF, search by title, Library folder name, or description.
- Select Use PDF on the intended card.
- Check the document title and Subject before entering information.
- Answer the labeled fields, then select Save draft.
- Wait for Draft saved before closing.
Text fields may allow multiple lines. Checkboxes offer Not answered, Yes, and No; an unanswered checkbox is different from No. Signature fields offer typed or drawn signatures.
Fill from profile appears when the layout supports direct profile values. Other layouts may offer AI research. Review suggested values before completion; manual answers can be entered without running research.
A new draft captures the saved PDF layout available when it starts. Later Library edits do not update it. Continuing an existing draft does not require continued access to the original Library, but still requires profile write access.
Return later
Choose Continue draft beside the saved draft's title and number. The row can show answered-field progress, configured research sources, and the last update. The answered count is not proof that all suggestions are reviewed or that the document is ready to complete.
Closing with unsaved answers or unaccepted signature drawing opens Discard unsaved answers? Choose Keep editing to return, or Discard changes to abandon those local changes. Previously saved answers remain.
Remove unfinished work
Choose Discard draft on the intended row. Check its identity in Discard saved draft?, then choose Discard permanently or Keep draft. Permanent discard removes that unfinished draft, its answers, signatures, and previews. It preserves completed documents, their history, and other drafts.
If another person has saved changes, reopen the latest draft before retrying. For stale saves or unavailable content, follow draft recovery.
