Smart PDF AI credits for research and shortening
Read credit quotes, identify the payer, and distinguish temporary holds from final charges.
Profile-draft Research field… and Suggest shorter wording… use AI credits. Each new run asks you to Confirm AI charge. Direct Fill from profile and manually writing shorter PDF wording do not run these AI operations.
Read the quote
The confirmation can show Current maximum hold, Current payer, and a refresh time. This is an estimate for the current saved field, not a charge or a guaranteed final amount. It refreshes while the dialog remains open.
If a quote is unavailable, you can still confirm the actual request. Sources, rates, eligibility, and balances are checked when work starts. A changed hold or payer can be reported afterward. The run's billing status is authoritative.
The payer must be able to cover the required maximum hold. A smaller expected final charge does not guarantee that a run can start.
Who pays?
CareMap first tries the Profile owner using their personal AI allowance. Eligible fallback applies when that wallet lacks sufficient credits, an AI entitlement, or an active wallet:
- For an organization-owned template, Template organization is the fallback. The requester must currently be Owner, Manager, or Staff in that active organization, and its allowance must cover the operation.
- For a personal template, Requesting user is the fallback when they differ from the profile owner and have eligible personal funding.
An organization template does not fall through to the requester's personal wallet if organization funding fails. Choosing another workspace in the app does not select the payer. Billing can explain why owner funding was unavailable; it does not expose another person's wallet balance.
Draft and generated-file storage still uses the profile owner's personal workspace, regardless of which eligible payer funds AI.
Read the result's billing

| Billing status is unavailable | The displayed state does not establish a free operation. |
An unusable answer or shortening proposal can still be charged for completed AI work. A research run that finds No supporting evidence found skips answer generation and charges no research credits.
Use Research history or Shortening history to review saved receipts. Deleting a run does not refund settled charges. If billing remains unresolved, refresh status and contact support rather than starting repeated replacement requests.
