Add a signature to a Smart PDF
Type or draw a signature, attach the drawing, and save it with the document answers.
A Smart PDF signature field places a typed or drawn signature into the generated PDF. The layout determines which fields are signatures and whether they are required. You need write access to the profile's documents.
These fields are separate from care-record Acknowledge actions, which record review without placing a signature onto an uploaded file. See Documents and signatures for that workflow.
Type a signature
- Open the person's Smart PDF draft and find the signature field.
- Select Type signature.
- Enter the intended signature text, up to 250 characters.
- Select Save draft.
- Use Preview PDF to check the signature's placement and appearance.
Typed signatures use an italic style. The text you enter becomes an answer in that specific field; typing does not complete the document.
Draw a signature
- Select Draw signature.
- Draw in the signature area using your pointer or touch input.
- Select Use drawn signature to attach the drawing.
- Wait for the attached-signature message.
- Select Save draft to retain the attachment as the field's answer.
- Preview the PDF before completing.
Drawing alone is not enough. While unaccepted ink remains, the editor asks you to use or clear the drawing and disables saving, previewing, and completing. After attachment, saving is still required. Preview PDF and Complete document save pending answer changes as part of their workflow.
If attaching fails, the drawing remains available in the open editor. Check the error and retry Use drawn signature. Leaving with unsaved changes can lose the drawing, so keep the editor open while recovering.
Clear, replace, or remove
Clear drawing clears the canvas and releases the pending-drawing state. It does not remove an already attached signature answer. To replace a drawing, clear the canvas, draw again, and use the new drawing before saving.
Remove signature clears the field's current answer. Save the draft to retain that removal. A required signature must be supplied again before completion. Switching between Type signature and Draw signature does not itself erase the saved answer; entering or attaching a replacement changes it.
Read a saved signature
The draft can display its attached drawn image. After completion, select View on the Profile Document and use Answers or PDF. Authorized viewers can also inspect signatures retained in Answer changes.
If an image cannot load, reopen the document view or ask the profile owner to check access. A failed image display is not evidence that the saved signature was removed.
