Configure Smart PDF answer suggestions

A template's Prefill from setting tells document creators how an answer can be suggested. It does not itself run research or fill a person's document.

Open the Library PDF's Edit Smart PDF, then select a field. After changing its settings, choose OK and Save changes.

Choose a source

Profile birth date	Text	Suggests an available birth date when the account owner fills their own document.
AI research	Text or checkbox	Uses permitted evidence to suggest an answer after the creator confirms AI spending.

Signatures always require explicit human input. A profile suggestion has no AI charge and refers to the subject, not the person assisting them.

Profile Document write access does not grant access to another account's birth date setting. If that source is unavailable, the creator may need to enter the value manually from information they are authorized to use.

Write the research prompt

Choose AI research, then enter Research prompt. It starts with the field label; replace vague labels with a specific question that identifies the needed fact. The prompt must be nonempty and allows up to 12,000 characters.

Select one or more Research sources:

• Profile properties
• Notes
• Profile documents
• Reports

These selections narrow eligible evidence. They do not grant the document creator access to otherwise restricted records. The eventual answer remains a suggestion to inspect; a configured prompt does not guarantee evidence exists.

Limit source dates

Optionally set Source date from and Source date through.

The boundaries include the entire UTC day, which may differ from the date shown in your local timezone. Dates concern profile/note updates, document completion, and Report submission. With a date limit, records lacking a usable source date are excluded. Leave both blank for no date filter.

The end date must be on or after the start date. At least one research source must remain selected.

Review before sharing

AI-detected fields can arrive with suggested research prompts. Inspect their prompts and source choices before others use the template; switch to Manual entry where appropriate.

Test template checks explicit sample answers and PDF layout. It does not exercise a real profile lookup or AI research. Review suggestions and evidence again when researching a profile answer. See research sources and dates for eligibility and excerpt limits.

Changing the template's prefill settings affects newly started documents. Existing drafts retain their captured field configuration.
