Detect Smart PDF fields with AI

Detect fields suggests text, independent checkbox, and signature regions on one PDF page, including scanned forms. It does not answer the form. You still review each proposed field.

Start detection

1. Open Edit Smart PDF and select the intended Page.
2. Choose Detect fields. This saves any current designer changes first.
3. Review the page, saved revision, and current maximum credit hold and payer.
4. Select Use AI credits to detect fields on page #.
5. Choose Detect this page.

The selected page goes to the configured AI service. Personal templates use the requesting user's credits; organization templates use that organization's credits. Closing the screen does not cancel a running request.

A quote is informational. Opening or refreshing it creates no detection run or credit hold. If unavailable, the screen still allows explicit confirmation; the actual hold and payer appear when the request starts. Rates and funding can change between quote and dispatch.

Review and apply

Wait for Ready for review. Inspect warnings, each proposed label, type, reason, suggested research prompt, and highlighted region. Duplicate regions may be skipped. Detection proposes at most 100 fields per page and does not automatically mark them required.

Select the wanted proposals, then Add selected fields. This saves them to the template immediately and returns to the designer. Correct labels, prompts, required state, and placement there, then save those corrections.

Only one selection can be applied from a run. If the layout has changed since detection, detect the current saved page again. A run from an older revision cannot be applied to the new layout.

Reopen runs and understand billing

Recent detection runs shows your latest 50 runs for this template, with page, revision, state, and time. Another author's runs are not your history.

Repeated requests for the same saved layout/page can return the existing run. Its historical billing is separate from the current quote.

Read AI billing for the actual hold and final charge. A failed or unusable AI result can still have a charge for work performed. If the charge is being checked, use Refresh status and wait for reconciliation instead of submitting another operation.

Retry detection appears only for retryable failures. Correct a funding, access, or service problem before retrying. For a page that exceeds the detection limit, simplify its PDF images or map the fields manually.

Delete a saved run

Choose Delete detection run, review the confirmation, then Delete run. This removes proposals and preview history, while keeping fields already added and the billing record. Running or unsettled work may need to finish first. Detecting again after deletion may use credits again.
