Test a Smart PDF with sample answers
Render private sample PDFs, inspect long answers and signatures, and manage saved tests.
Use Test template to check your layout before people fill real documents. Samples are private to the requesting author and never create profile documents.
You need current template-authoring access. Samples also use the template's workspace storage.
Render a sample
- Open Edit Smart PDF from the Library PDF.
- Choose Test template. This saves current designer changes first.
- Enter representative Sample answers.
- For a checkbox, choose Not answered, Yes / checked, or No / unchecked.
- For a signature, choose Type signature or Draw signature.
- Select Render sample PDF.
A drawing must be attached with Use drawn signature, or cleared with Clear drawing, before rendering. Remove signature removes an attached value; clearing unfinished ink and removing an attached signature are separate actions.
Required fields are labeled “required in completed documents.” Tests allow incomplete answers so you can inspect a partial layout. They use the explicit sample values you enter, not live profile suggestions or AI research.
The latest saved sample for the same layout revision can initialize the sample inputs when you reopen testing.
Inspect the output
While rendering, you can close the result view and return later. A ready Sample PDF shows its saved layout revision.
Use Page to inspect all pages and Download PDF to save a copy. Expand Saved sample answers to compare output with the values supplied. Check long text, checkbox marks, and typed and drawn signatures.
Text can shrink or continue on appended pages. Check those pages and the references left in the original boxes. The rendered PDF is flattened; editing the downloaded PDF is not the way to update CareMap's saved sample.
Select Back to samples, then Back to designer to improve the layout. A saved sample keeps the layout and answers from its own run; editing the designer does not update older samples.
Reopen, retry, and delete
Use View sample under Saved samples. Load older samples retrieves additional history.
For a load or download problem, use Reload sample or the download retry. For Sample rendering failed, Retry rendering retries the saved run; its answers remain. Rendering identical answers with the same layout can reuse an existing sample instead of adding another row.
Delete sample asks for confirmation. Delete saved sample removes its answers and rendered PDF, while preserving the template and profile documents.
Closing with unrendered edits offers Keep testing or Discard sample changes. Discarding those inputs does not delete already-rendered samples.
