Page layouts and backgrounds

Choose Linear, Cards, or Two column layouts and set a Guide page's color, background image, fit, and position.

Page presentation controls the surface behind a Guide's blocks. It is separate from the Guide cover and from images, video, or audio inside Media blocks.

Open an editable Guide, select the page, then choose Page > Page settings. You need permission to edit its Library folder and a workspace that allows authoring.

Choose a layout

In Layout, select:

  • Linear for an ordered, full-width stack.
  • Cards for a compact grid of blocks.
  • Two column for a wider canvas that becomes one column when space is limited.

Two column also offers Balanced, Left focus, and Right focus. Balanced gives both columns equal space; the focus choices give one side more space on wide surfaces. The available content width determines whether two columns fit, so even a desktop flyout can collapse to one column.

This changes presentation, not the page's authored block order. Review both Full and Simplified players when the Guide will be used in different player modes.

Set a page color

In Background, choose Page color.

Default uses the player's Default Guide page color. An authored semantic color takes priority over that personal default. The available authored choices include named colors such as Blue, Green, and Yellow. Neutral is represented by Default and therefore follows the player's default rather than forcing Neutral. Party is available only when unlocked; a previously saved locked Party choice may appear disabled.

These colors follow CareMap's presentation system. Check readability in the themes your players use. A background should support the content, not carry essential instructions that are absent from the blocks.

Add or replace an image

  1. Select Choose page background image, or Change page background image.
  2. Choose an available source, or drop an image on the background preview.
  3. Wait for the upload to finish and inspect the preview.
  4. Set Image fit and Image position.
  5. Select Save page, then Preview at wide and narrow sizes.

The Background image URL or asset ID field can also hold an existing reference. Use an accessible image reference and verify loading on the intended device.

Image fitEffect
CoverFills the page while preserving proportions; some edges can be cropped
ContainShows the whole image without cropping, leaving space where needed
RepeatTiles the image at its natural size
StretchFills the edges and can change proportions

Image position offers Center, each edge, and each corner. Use it to preserve the useful part of a cropped image.

Clear image removes the page's image reference when you save. It does not replace the Guide cover, remove a Media block, or delete the source image from Library.

Fix a missing or unreadable background

If loading fails, check the reference and connection, then choose Retry background image. Replace or clear an unavailable image. Saving the reference does not prove the remote image loaded successfully.

A pending upload prevents Save page. Let it finish or resolve its error before saving. Reopen settings to confirm the saved color, image, fit, and position.

If text or controls are hard to read, use a simpler image, change its fit or position, or clear it and choose a clearer color. Put meaningful images in a Media block with useful alternative text instead of relying on a decorative background.
