Notes and Schedule

Change a recurring series and preserve intended exceptions

Review whole-series edits, occurrence defaults, and exceptions that no longer match a changed pattern.

Edit series changes shared schedule settings across the recurring series.

Review and save a series change

  1. Open a visible occurrence of the series in Schedule.
  2. Choose Edit series from its actions.
  3. Review Content and About.
  4. Review the original Start, End, Timezone, Repeats, Every, and Until under Time.
  5. Review Reminder and Color under Options.
  6. Select Save series, resolving any overlap or stale-edit message.
  7. Inspect ordinary, rescheduled, skipped, and completed dates affected by the change.

There is no “this and following dates” scope selector. Use Reschedule occurrence when you mean to move one date.

Know which exceptions survive

A title, content, person, color, or default reminder change does not by itself discard matching occurrence exceptions.

Changing Start, Timezone, Repeats, Every, or Until checks the existing exceptions against the new pattern. Exceptions whose original occurrence no longer belongs to that pattern are removed.

For example, shortening Until removes exceptions after the new cutoff. Extending it again does not bring those removed exceptions back. Switching a recurring series to One-time removes its recurring exceptions.

Matching exceptions continue to apply. A rescheduled occurrence keeps its replacement time; its reminder override takes priority over the series default. Changing the series reminder therefore does not necessarily change every occurrence's reminder.

An exception without its own End derives duration from the series. Changing the series End can change that occurrence's effective duration.

Review values inherited from the opened occurrence

The editor uses the series' original Start and recurrence settings. When opened from a modified occurrence, however, Reminder and Timezone can reflect that occurrence's effective values. End can also be populated from the occurrence when the series has no saved End.

For a routine series edit, start from an unchanged occurrence when possible. Otherwise inspect these fields before saving so an occurrence's values do not unintentionally become series defaults.

Selecting Me does not currently clear an existing person, and blanking End does not remove a saved End; see editing limits.

Recover or remove work

If another editor changed the series, use Load latest and Reapply my draft. Reapplying is not an automatic merge.

Use Clear exception to remove one occurrence override. Delete recurring schedule removes the whole series and its exceptions across all dates and cancels pending reminders. Completed responses and Reports remain.
