Offline Guides
Prepare supported Guide content for use when a connection is unavailable.
Prepare a Guide before losing your connection so its supported steps and resources remain available on the current device. An offline package belongs to the device and account that prepared it; prepare the Guide separately on every device that needs offline access.
You need access to the Guide and an internet connection to prepare or refresh a package.
Prepare a Guide
- Connect to the internet and sign in to CareMap.
- In Library, find the Guide and open its actions menu.
- Select Prepare offline. The same offline action may also appear for a Guide on Home or Schedule.
- Keep CareMap open until preparation finishes, then check the status beside the Guide.
- Open the Guide once before going offline to confirm that the content you need is available.
Use Refresh offline after the Guide changes or whenever CareMap says that the saved package is stale. Remove offline package deletes only the local copy on this device; it does not delete or change the Guide in Library.
Understand package status
- Offline ready: The Guide and its supported resources are prepared on this device.
- Partial offline: The Guide can play offline, but some referenced resources were not cached. Refresh while online and test any affected content.
- Needs network: Required media or speech was not ready, or no playable package is available. Reconnect and prepare the Guide again.
- Offline stale or Refresh offline: The Guide or offline package format changed after preparation. Reconnect and refresh it before offline playback.
- Offline failed: Preparation did not finish. Reconnect and select Retry offline.
Some provider-hosted or unavailable resources may still require a connection. CareMap shows warnings and resource counts during preparation so you can check what was saved before leaving the network.
Ready recorded speech and prepared cloud speech are included when CareMap can identify them in advance. Missing or dynamic speech uses the device's built-in voice while offline. Refresh the package after the Guide's speech changes or after changing the learner's default Voice Profile; authored Guide speech is not changed by later profile edits.
Work and sync while offline
When an offline Guide is playable, session progress can be saved locally on the same device. CareMap queues supported changes and sends them when the service is available again. Reconnect, keep CareMap open, and review Settings > Mobile & Offline > Session Sync until no changes remain queued.
Do not remove the offline package, clear offline data, sign out, or uninstall CareMap while session changes are still waiting to sync. A Blocked or Conflict status needs review and may not replay automatically; follow the action shown in Session Sync.
Fix common problems
- If preparation appears stuck, confirm the connection, reopen CareMap, and use Refresh offline or Retry offline.
- If media is missing, reconnect and refresh after the resource is ready. See Troubleshoot media.
- If speech is missing or uses the device voice, see Troubleshoot Guide speech, then refresh the package while online.
- If saved work does not appear after reconnecting, see Troubleshoot synchronization.
- To review or clear old packages, open Settings > Mobile & Offline > Offline Packages. Clear a package only after its pending session changes have synced.
