Copy, paste, and duplicate Guide content
Reuse sequences, pages, and blocks, and understand what the editor clipboard preserves.
The Guide editor can copy sequences, pages, and blocks into another location. Use an editable destination Guide in a workspace that allows authoring. Copying does not remove the source, and the resulting content can be edited independently.
Copy a sequence or page
- Save any source edits you want to reuse.
- Select the source and choose Sequence > Copy sequence or Page > Copy page.
- Open the destination Guide in the same app or browser profile.
- For a sequence, open Sequence > Add sequence and select Paste copied sequence.
- For a page, select the destination sequence, open Page > Add page, and select Paste copied page.
- Wait for the result, then check its location and content.
A sequence is normally inserted after the active sequence. A page goes after the active page when pasting into its active sequence; otherwise it is appended to the chosen sequence. Use the Organizer to reposition the result.
The paste action uses copied content rather than the Add dialog's blank or template selection. A matching copied type is required for its paste button.
Copy blocks
Open a block's actions and select Copy block. On the destination page, select Add block > Paste copied block to append it. Where available, Paste block after this places it after the block whose actions you opened.
For several blocks, use their selection controls and Copy in the selected blocks toolbar. The same paste entry accepts that group and preserves its copied order. The label can still say Paste copied block.
Know which version is reused
For an ordinary single sequence, page, or block copy, Paste reads the source's current saved content. If someone edits it after you copied, the pasted result can include those newer changes. The source must still be available to you. Its local clipboard entry does not guarantee recovery after source deletion or loss of access.
Copying a selected group of blocks retains their current local snapshots instead. Later source edits do not update that group. Save pending edits before copying and inspect the pasted result in either case.
The Guide clipboard belongs to the current app or browser storage. It is separate from ordinary text Copy/Paste, has one current copied item or group, and is not a synchronized clipboard on your other devices. Copying another item replaces it. Use a saved template for named, reusable content.
Duplicate nearby
Use Duplicate sequence, Duplicate page, or a block's Duplicate action to create a nearby copy without a separate paste step. Ordinary copied items receive a “copy” name suffix; rename them to make their purpose clear.
Check routes, media, and failures
Copies get new identities. References within a copied subtree can be remapped, but a route to content outside it is not automatically made useful in another Guide. Review Warnings and Preview every route.
Check images, audio, video, and speech after copying across folders. Some resources retain references rather than becoming independent media copies. A successful structural copy does not repair a missing source file.
If Paste is missing, check the copied type and clear the Add block search. If it fails, check source access, destination permission, and authoring availability. Inspect the destination before repeating an uncertain operation.
