Display images in Forms
Upload a standalone Form display image, describe it with Alt text, and save, replace, or discard it.
A Display image adds a standalone picture and optional caption between questions. It does not collect an answer. Use an Upload field when respondents need to attach a file.
Add a display image
You need Form edit access and available storage in its workspace.
- Open the Form builder and select the section.
- Select Add field or content, then Display image under Content.
- Under Image, choose an image file from your device.
- Wait for the upload to finish and check the picture.
- Enter Alt text describing the useful information or purpose.
- Optionally add a Caption for visible context or attribution.
- Select Done, wait for saving, and use Preview to check the result.
This item's Image control chooses a device file. For Library images, Code Set symbols, or an image among formatted instructions, use Info text with inline images.
A new Display image remains an item draft until saved. Uploading the file alone does not finish adding the item.
Describe the image
A saved image selection and nonblank Alt text are required for Form readiness. A caption does not replace Alt text. Describe what the picture communicates in this Form—for example, the relevant steps in a diagram—rather than repeating only a filename.
The caption appears below the picture. Alt text supplies its accessible description. Preview both the picture and surrounding instructions on the screen size your respondents use.
Readiness checks that an image is selected; it does not prove that the picture will load successfully on every device. If the picture is unavailable, resolve that before relying on it to explain a question.
Replace, discard, or move it
Open the item's Edit action and choose a replacement under Image. The displayed selection changes after the upload succeeds. Review Alt text and Caption so they still describe the replacement, then select Done.
If you close a changed item or select Cancel, choose Save changes, Discard changes, or Keep editing. Discarding an existing item's edits keeps its earlier saved picture and wording. Discarding a new item cancels its addition.
Use the reorder handle to change its position. Duplicate, Move to section, and Delete are available in the item actions. Deleting the current item does not rewrite a previously submitted Form response.
Recover from problems
- Done or closing is unavailable: Wait for the image upload or save to finish.
- Upload failed: Read the error and retry or choose another image. If storage is insufficient, use a smaller file or ask the workspace owner for help.
- Form issues lists the image: Open the issue and supply its missing image or Alt text.
- Image unavailable in Preview: Reopen the item and check or replace the picture, then save and Preview again.
- The item cannot save: Keep your work open and use saving and recovery.
