Resolve Form issues and test Preview

Fix setup problems, inspect saved section flow and answer rules, and understand what Preview does and does not test.

Form issues identifies setup problems that prevent a Form from being filled. Preview lets an author try the saved Form without submitting a response or creating a Report.

Use the active Form's builder with edit access. Preview also needs a workspace that can accept Form responses; editing access alone does not bypass that requirement.

Resolve setup issues

  1. Finish open dialogs and wait for the builder to save.
  2. Select the numbered Form issues button when it appears.
  3. Select a message to open the relevant Form settings, Section settings, or item editor.
  4. Correct the highlighted setting and finish with Done where applicable.
  5. Wait for saving and check the issue count again.

When the entire Form has no items, selecting that issue takes you to the add-content control.

The readiness check requires a nonblank Form name, at least one section, titles for all sections, and at least one field or content item somewhere in the Form. It also checks:

  • A chosen image and alt text for Display image items.
  • Labels for fields and their choices.
  • At least one choice or Allow Other for choice fields.
  • At least one allowed file kind for Upload fields.
  • An answer key for automatically graded fields when Quiz mode is enabled.

It does not require every section to contain an item, check whether Info text contains useful instructions, or prove that an image will display. A Form can contain supporting content without collecting answers. Review the actual experience as well as its status.

Try the saved Form

  1. Select Preview after saving and resolving issues.
  2. Inspect the first section's title, description, images, and background.
  3. Enter sample answers and use Next to continue. Check required fields and any configured answer limits.
  4. Use Back to revisit sections.
  5. Select Finish preview on the final section, or Exit preview, to return to editing.

Next and Finish preview validate answers. Opening Preview again starts with fresh answers. Finish preview does not submit a Report or calculate a saved quiz score.

Selecting a file in Preview performs a real upload, even though no response is submitted. Use suitable test files and account for workspace storage. Preview is not a complete test of another person's permissions or the final submission and Report workflow.

If Preview cannot open

The Preview button can remain available while setup issues exist, but loading the Form rejects unresolved issues. Return to the builder, fix Form issues, and wait for saving before retrying.

Also check whether the Form became archived, the workspace became read-only, or your access changed. For a save failure, preserve local work and follow Form saving recovery.
