Catalog resource lesson items

Link an available Catalog resource from a Course lesson.

A Catalog resource lesson item gives learners a link to a Guide, Form, or File that is available through the Catalog. The resource stays separate from the Course and is supplemental: opening it is not required to complete the lesson.

Add a Catalog resource

You need edit access to the Course and access to the Catalog resource you want to link.

  1. Open the Course in Library, then select the lesson that should contain the link.
  2. Under Add content, select Catalog link.
  3. In Catalog Guide, Form, or File, select the resource.
  4. Move the item to the right place in the lesson if needed.
  5. Wait for the Course to show Saved, then use Preview to confirm the selected resource before publishing.

Only Catalog Guides, Forms, and Files available to you appear in the picker. A Course cannot be published while a Catalog link has no resource selected.

What learners see

In Learn, an available item appears as Supplemental Catalog resource with an Open action. Opening it takes the learner to that resource in the Catalog.

Access is checked separately for every learner and follows the linked resource's Catalog audience. Your access as the Course author does not grant access to learners. If a learner cannot access it, CareMap shows Supplemental resource unavailable instead; the learner can still complete the lesson.

Fix common problems

  • The resource is missing from the picker: Confirm that it is a Catalog Guide, Form, or File that you can access. Otherwise, choose another resource.
  • CareMap asks you to choose a Catalog submission: Return to the item and select a resource before publishing.
  • A learner sees that the resource is unavailable: Check the resource's Catalog audience or replace it with one intended for that learner. The link does not prevent lesson completion while access is unavailable.
  • The Course does not save: Use Retry save. If CareMap reports a newer version, use Reload latest, then review the Catalog link again.
