Catalog resource lesson items

A Catalog resource links to a Guide, Form, or File from a Course lesson or Reference chapter. The linked content stays separate and is supplemental: opening it is not required for lesson completion.

You need editing access to the Course or Reference and access to the Catalog resource you want to select.

Add the link

1. Open the project for editing from Library and select a lesson or chapter.
2. Under Add content, select Catalog link.
3. In Catalog Guide, Form, or File, choose an available resource.
4. Drag the item's grip to the intended position.
5. Wait for Saved, then use Preview to check the selection.
6. Check the resource's Catalog audience before publishing the Course.

The picker offers accessible Catalog Guides, Forms, and Files. It does not offer another Course, Reference, or a whole folder. A private Library item must first be available through Catalog before it can be selected here.

A Catalog link without a selection prevents publication. Select a resource or remove the item. The title and kind in the picker help distinguish similarly named submissions.

Check what learners can open

In Learn, an available link appears as Supplemental Catalog resource with Open. It opens the resource in Catalog; it does not automatically copy it into the learner's Library or complete that resource.

Access follows the linked submission's audience and is checked independently for each learner. Your access as the author does not grant access to everyone who can use the Course.

When access is unavailable, CareMap shows Supplemental resource unavailable instead. This does not block the learner's Course completion.

Preview confirms the authored selection and reminds you that access is checked per learner. It does not prove another account can open the resource.

Keep links useful over time

Use resources intended for the same audience as the learning project. A later Catalog audience or availability change can make a previously usable link unavailable.

Changing the Course draft does not edit the linked resource. Selecting another resource changes this link, and publishing the updated Course is a separate step.

A Course package preserves the Catalog reference; it does not bundle that linked submission or grant access when imported elsewhere.

Fix common problems

• The resource is missing from the picker: Check that it is an accessible Catalog Guide, Form, or File. Reopen the builder if Catalog availability changed while it was open.
• The picker is unexpectedly empty: Check your connection and access, reopen the builder, or choose another available resource.
• A learner sees unavailable: Review the Catalog audience, or replace the resource with one intended for that learner.
• The draft does not save: Follow Course saving recovery. Access can change between choosing a resource and saving the new link.
