Validate a certificate serial

Check a certificate's current status using its full serial or QR link, including records outside your profile access.

Validation checks a certificate's current status. You need to sign in to CareMap and have the complete serial. You do not need to own the certificate, be the learner's contact, or have access to its Catalog audience.

A full serial lets another signed-in person view the certificate's learner, Course, publisher, version, dates, status, and any void reason. Share the serial or its QR link with the people who should receive those details.

Enter a serial

  1. Open Learn and its Learn actions menu.
  2. Select Validate Certificate.
  3. Paste the full value into Certificate serial.
  4. Select Validate and wait for the result.
  5. Compare the learner, Course, version, dates, and status with the document you are checking.
  6. Use Close certificate validator to return.

The serial starts with CM-, followed by eight groups of four characters separated by hyphens. Letter case and whitespace are normalized; retain every character and hyphen.

You can open the validator from any Learn section, even without certificates of your own. Your own profile's Certificates tab also offers it under Certificate actions.

Check an existing certificate or QR code

Open a certificate's details and select Validate Certificate. CareMap fills in and checks that selected record's serial automatically, including a historical record chosen through Certificate version.

To use a PDF's QR code, scan it with your device's camera and open the link. Sign in if prompted. Reopen the link after signing in if needed. The link opens the validator with the serial, which it checks automatically.

Validation does not change the underlying certificate, enroll you, or renew the Course. The result can be newer than the status on an already open certificate detail; reopen the collection to refresh that view.

Interpret the result

  • Valid certificate: found, not expired, and not voided.
  • Expired certificate: found, but its expiration has been reached.
  • Voided certificate: found and permanently invalidated.
  • Serial format is invalid: the entered value does not match the format.
  • Certificate not found: no retained record matches that serial.
  • Too many validation attempts. Try again later. Wait before another check.

A missing result is different from an expired or voided record. Recheck the complete serial; permanent deletion can also make a formerly issued record unavailable.

Export or try again

A found certificate offers Export verified certificate, including when expired or voided. Export checks again and can be temporarily limited too.

If you edit the serial, select Validate again and wait before exporting. The previous result can remain displayed while the input has changed.

For a connection error, keep the serial and retry once the connection works. Avoid repeated rapid submissions. Show in Catalog uses normal Catalog permissions; successful validation does not grant that access.
