Lesson quiz items

Add and configure a knowledge check inside a Course lesson.

Add a Quiz when a Course lesson should check understanding before the learner can mark that lesson complete. Lesson quizzes are Course-only items; References use chapters for free navigation and do not include quizzes.

Add a Quiz to a lesson

  1. Open the Course builder and select the lesson that needs the check.
  2. In Add content, choose Quiz.
  3. Enter a quiz title and set the Passing score.
  4. Add each Question and at least two Answer choices.
  5. Select the Correct answer for each question.
  6. Add an optional explanation if learners should see extra feedback after they submit.
  7. Turn on Shuffle questions or Shuffle answers if the order should vary between attempts.

The builder allows one Quiz item per lesson. If Quiz is not available in Add content, confirm that the item is a Course, not a Reference, and that the selected lesson does not already contain a quiz.

What learners see

Learners see the Quiz as a Knowledge check inside the lesson. They must choose one answer for every question before Submit answers becomes available.

After submission, CareMap shows the score, attempt number, which answers were correct, which answers need review, and any explanations you added. Retakes are unlimited; each submission is recorded as a separate attempt.

A learner must pass the lesson quiz before they can choose Complete Lesson for that lesson. For later lessons, learners also need to complete the earlier lessons before taking the next lesson quiz. Passing a lesson quiz does not complete the whole Course, pass the final assessment, or issue a certificate by itself.

Preview and publish safely

Use Course preview to try the quiz before publishing. Preview activity is temporary, so test answers and retakes do not create learner progress or certificates.

Before switching a Course to Reference mode, review whether you still need quizzes. Switching to Reference mode removes lesson quizzes and the final assessment because References do not use tracked assessments.

Troubleshoot quiz behavior

  • If Quiz is missing from Add content, the item may be in Reference mode or the lesson may already have its one Quiz item.
  • If Submit answers is disabled, answer every question.
  • If Complete Lesson is blocked, pass the lesson quiz first.
  • If learners cannot take a later lesson quiz, have them open that lesson only after completing the earlier lessons.
  • If question or answer order looks different between attempts, check Shuffle questions and Shuffle answers.
