Add and manage passkeys
Create, rename, or remove a CareMap passkey and understand device support.
A passkey lets you sign in through your device's authentication prompt. Your browser, device, and passkey provider determine whether it uses a fingerprint, face, screen lock, or another supported option.
Check device support
Open Settings > Account > Security. Passkeys ready and a Passkey choice under Add sign-in method appear when the current device supports registration. The mobile app uses the device's available passkey support.
The desktop app currently disables passkey creation and sign-in. Use CareMap in a supported browser or mobile device to add or use one. Existing passkeys can still appear in Security for management. Missing creation controls do not mean an existing passkey was deleted.
Add a passkey
You must already be signed in to the account that should own the passkey.
- Open Security and find Sign-in methods.
- Select the plus control labeled Add sign-in method.
- Choose Passkey and complete your device's prompt.
- Wait for Passkey saved. and check the new entry in the method list.
The main Settings Add a Passkey suggestion starts the same registration flow when your account has no passkeys. Its Dismiss action only hides the suggestion locally; it does not prevent later registration.
New entries start with a name such as CareMap passkey. You can add more than one passkey where your device or provider permits another credential. Use names that help you recognize where you keep each one.
Rename or remove a passkey
Open Method actions beside the passkey:
- Choose Rename, enter a nonempty name, and select Save name.
- Choose Remove to revoke that CareMap sign-in method.
CareMap requires another active Email/password or passkey method before removing one from this list. A separately linked external identity does not satisfy that list's removal rule. Add and test another method first.
The entry may show Synced passkey or Device-bound passkey, backup status, and when it was added or last used. These describe the credential information reported to CareMap; a synced label does not guarantee it is available on every device you use.
Use a passkey or recover a failed attempt
On a supported device's sign-in screen, choose the passkey action and complete the prompt using a passkey already attached to your CareMap account.
If registration or sign-in is canceled, times out, or fails, finish or close the current device prompt before starting again. A new attempt obtains a fresh challenge. If the device cannot access your saved passkey, use another sign-in method already attached to the account.
Removing a sign-in method is separate from ending existing sessions. To end access on another device, review Account sessions.
