Understand recurring dates and clock changes

Explain month-end dates, leap years, daylight-saving changes, duration, and inclusive Until cutoffs.

Recurring dates follow the series' original local date and clock time in its saved timezone.

Check an expected occurrence

  1. Open an occurrence and inspect its recurrence label and timezone.
  2. If you can edit the series, open Edit series and review the original Start, Timezone, Repeats, Every, and Until.
  3. Compare the expected date with the rules below.
  4. Close without saving if you only needed to inspect the settings.
  5. Return to the relevant calendar range and clear filters if necessary.

Calendar-date rules

PatternHow dates advance
DailyBy the selected number of local calendar days.
WeeklyBy the selected number of weeks from the anchor date.
MonthlyBy calendar months, using the original day where possible.
YearlyBy calendar years, using the original month and day where possible.

A monthly series starting January 31 uses February's last day, then returns to March 31. A yearly February 29 series uses February 28 in a non-leap year and February 29 when that date exists again.

These are calendar calculations in the saved timezone. A daily occurrence does not always happen exactly 24 elapsed hours after the previous one.

Daylight-saving transitions

When a generated occurrence's clock time does not exist because clocks move forward, that occurrence shifts forward by the gap. For example, a 2:30 daily series can occur at 3:30 on a one-hour spring-forward day, then return to 2:30 on the following day.

When a generated local time happens twice as clocks move backward, CareMap uses the earlier instant.

This differs from typing a new start or reschedule time: the editor rejects nonexistent clock times and asks you to choose another. See entering Schedule times.

End and Until have different meanings

End determines duration. When the series has an End, occurrences retain the elapsed duration between its original Start and End. A clock change during that duration can change the displayed ending clock time.

Until limits original occurrence starts, inclusive of the cutoff instant. It does not limit when an occurrence must finish.

A valid occurrence can be rescheduled beyond Until while remaining attached to its original series date. Its moved date does not create a new repeating pattern.

Calendar columns use your device's local date, while item time labels use the saved timezone. Check both before treating an apparent date difference as a missing occurrence; see calendar views.
