Position Smart PDF fields on the page

Move, resize, repeat, and test answer placements without changing the source PDF.

A field can have several placements. Each placement prints the same answer in a particular region of a PDF page.

Open Edit Smart PDF from the Library file. On a narrow screen, select PDF page to reach the canvas.

Draw, move, and resize

  1. Choose Page and a convenient Zoom: 75%, 100%, 150%, or 200%.
  2. Under Draw, select Text, Checkbox, or Signature.
  3. Drag across the blank answer region.
  4. Configure the new field and choose OK.
  5. Switch Draw to Select / move.
  6. Drag an existing field box to move it, or drag its highlighted corner to resize.

A click without dragging opens field details. Draw around the answer area, not its printed label. Zoom changes your view, not the saved position.

Imported native fields can already have multiple placements. Review every page and check Document details > Import notes for unsupported or hidden regions that need manual attention.

Use exact placement controls

Open a field, find Placement on PDF, and choose Edit placement.

  • Page selects the destination page.
  • x (%) and y (%) place the box relative to the visible page's left and top edges.
  • width (%) and height (%) size the box.
  • Font size selects the preferred text size from 8 to 96.
  • Alignment chooses Left, Center, or Right.

Boxes stay within the visible page. Choose OK, then Save changes to retain the layout. Moving a field to another page does not move the source PDF's printed content.

Select Repeat value elsewhere in the field editor. The new placement starts on page 1; open Edit placement and select the intended page and coordinates.

Each location belongs to the same field and uses the same answer. This is useful for a name repeated on several pages. Use Remove placement to remove an extra location; the final remaining placement cannot be removed by that control.

A separate Duplicate field creates another answer, so use it only when the values should be independent.

Check the rendered result

Use Test template with short and long answers, checked and unchecked boxes, and representative signatures.

Text may shrink to fit. If it still cannot fit, the renderer adds continuation pages containing the full answer and places a page reference in the original box. Inspect those appended pages too. Enlarge or reposition boxes and retest when the output is difficult to read.

Saved profile drafts keep the layout they started with. A later designer fix applies to new drafts, not the layout already captured by an existing draft.
