Rename, move, and copy content
Change a content name or location while respecting workspace access.
Change a content name or location while respecting workspace access.
Use Library item actions when you need to clean up a name, move content into a better folder, or create a separate copy. The actions you see depend on the content type, your access to the item, and your access to the destination folder.
Before you change content
Check three things first:
- You are in the right workspace or Library source.
- The item is visible in the current view. If search or type filters are active, reset them if you cannot find the item.
- You have edit access to the item and the folder you want to place it in. Read-only folders can be opened, but they cannot be selected as destinations for move or duplicate actions.
Rename an item
- Open the Library.
- Find the folder, guide, template, form, file, or other Library item you want to rename.
- Open the item actions menu.
- Choose Rename.
- Enter the new name and save it.
Renaming changes the display name people see in the Library. It does not create a new copy, move the item, or by itself change who can access the item.
Move content to another folder
- Open the item actions menu.
- Choose Move.
- Select a destination folder.
- Confirm the move.
Only folders you can edit are selectable. CareMap also protects the folder structure: you cannot move a folder into itself, move it into one of its own child folders, or select the folder where the item already lives.
If the destination you want is disabled, open another folder where you have edit access or ask a workspace owner to update your permissions.
Copy or duplicate content
When a content type supports copying, CareMap usually labels the action Duplicate. Choose Duplicate, pick the folder for the new copy, and confirm.
The duplicate is a separate Library item. You can rename, move, or edit the copy without changing the original. Guides, forms, and courses can show Duplicate when you have edit access. Guide templates may instead offer a create-from-template flow, which makes a new guide from the template in the folder you choose.
Some content types may not show a copy or duplicate action. For example, files can be renamed, downloaded, or deleted when you have the right access, but they may not have a move or duplicate action in every Library view. If an action is missing, use the available action for that content type or add the content again in the destination folder.
If an action is missing
Try these checks:
- Make sure the item type supports the action you want.
- Confirm you have edit access, not read-only access.
- Reset search or type filters if the item or destination is hidden.
- For move and duplicate actions, choose a folder you can edit.
- Refresh the Library if permissions were recently changed.
If you still cannot rename, move, or duplicate the item, contact a workspace owner and tell them which item and destination folder you are trying to use.
