Delete content and folders

Delete an item or an entire folder tree with clear impact and background progress.

Deleting removes Library content that you no longer need. CareMap checks the impact before deleting a Guide or a folder tree, and it archives Forms and Courses so retained history stays available.

Deletion is destructive. CareMap does not show a Library restore action for a deleted folder, Guide, file, or template. Duplicate or export anything you need to keep before you confirm.

Before you start

Open the item's action menu in the correct Library source and folder. Delete or Archive appears only when your current access allows the action. A root Library folder cannot be deleted, and read-only content does not offer these actions.

Delete a file or template

  1. Open the file or template action menu and select Delete.
  2. Review the confirmation. For a file, select Delete file. For a template, select Delete template.

Deleting a template removes the reusable template record. It does not delete the original Guide tree that the template came from.

Delete a Guide

  1. Open the Guide action menu and select Delete.
  2. Wait for CareMap to check the deletion impact.
  3. Review any Blocking impact and the non-blocking deletion and audit impact. If deletion is allowed, select Delete.

Submitted report history remains available. Unfinished Guide runs are cleared, Guide-owned assets are cleaned up, and any person's Next Guide reference to the deleted Guide is removed.

Delete a folder tree

An eligible empty folder may disappear immediately after you select Delete. For a folder that contains content, CareMap shows the recursive impact first.

  1. Open the folder action menu and select Delete.
  2. Review the nested content, retained history, and any blocking dependencies.
  3. If deletion is allowed, select Delete recursively.

CareMap deletes nested folders, Guides, files, and templates. It archives Forms and Courses, cancels active uploads, and keeps submitted history available. The dialog shows background progress. You can close it while the deletion continues; the Library refreshes and moves you to an available parent folder when the job finishes if the current folder was deleted.

Archive Forms and Courses

Forms and Courses use Archive instead of Delete. Open the item action menu, select Archive, and confirm. Existing Form submissions and reports remain available. Published Course releases and earned certificates are unaffected.

If deletion is blocked or fails

A Guide schedule or a reference from outside the folder tree can block deletion. Use the impact list to find the dependency, remove or replace it, and then check the deletion again. If an expected action is missing, confirm the Library source, item location, and your folder access.

If a background folder deletion is still showing progress, let it finish instead of starting another deletion. If CareMap reports an error, read the message, correct the listed problem when possible, and try again.
