Build and answer nested Options

Create option groups, manage complete branches, and understand saved parent paths and final-answer actions.

Nested Options guide someone through a path such as Meal / Breakfast / Oatmeal. A choice with children is a group; a choice without children is a final option. You need Guide edit access to build the tree.

Build an option tree

  1. Open the Field's Options method and select an option to open Edit options.
  2. Choose Add root option for a new top-level answer. Use an option's actions menu and Add child option for a sub-option.
  3. Give each option a meaningful Label. Sibling labels must differ even when capitalization is ignored.
  4. Reorder or move choices using their tree handles. Moving a group moves its complete branch.
  5. Configure final-option actions and visuals as needed.
  6. Select Save in Edit options, then Save block.

The tree supports 10 levels and up to 100 choices in each sibling list. Moves cannot put a group inside itself or its descendants, or exceed the depth limit.

Duplicate option copies the whole branch. Its top label receives a copy suffix, but stored Values are copied too; change or clear duplicates because Values must remain unique across the tree. Delete option requires confirmation and removes the selected option and all descendants from the draft.

The main Options collection also supports branch moves, duplication, and deletion. These change the block draft and still require Save block.

Configure a group or final option

Adding children makes the method single-select and disables Allow multiple selections. Allow Other text can still provide a response at the root.

Groups can have images and an Effect, but no final-answer navigation. Final single-choice options can have a Result Image and After selecting action. See presentation and action timing.

If a final option already has an action, clear that action before turning it into a group. An action left on a parent can prevent saving; remove its children temporarily to edit the final-option action, then rebuild the group.

Follow a nested path

  1. Select a group to open its sub-options.
  2. Continue through the choices until you reach the intended answer.
  3. Use the parent-name button above the options to browse back one level.
  4. When offered, select Done with response after a final choice or Other answer to return to the method chooser.

Each selected group saves a parent path before the final choice is made. That saved parent is a valid partial response: it can satisfy the Field's response requirement and appear in Reports. It does not run a terminal action, and Done with response stays unavailable until a final option or Other answer.

Browsing back changes the options being shown without deleting or resaving the accepted path. Selecting another branch or final choice replaces that path. A failed save leaves an error and Retry save, even if you browse elsewhere.

At the root, use Change and Reset answer when offered to clear the response. When Change resets directly, it also returns to the root. Other methods' saved answers remain. Included Reports show the saved parent or final path; Preview practice stays out of the Reports inbox.
