Scale answers
Let someone choose a value along a configured scale in a Guide.
Use a Scale answer when someone should rate an experience or condition within a fixed range, such as comfort from 0 to 10.
You need edit access to the Guide to configure this method. The saved value can appear in the Guide Report.
Add and configure a Scale answer
- Open the Guide in the editor and select the Field block that should collect the rating.
- Open Answer methods, select Add method, and choose Scale.
- Give the method a clear label, then set Min and Max. The starting range is 0 to 10. Max must be greater than Min.
- In Advanced settings, optionally set a positive Step. Steps begin at Min; a Min of 1 and a Step of 2 produces 1, 3, 5, and so on.
- Optionally set a Default value, Helper text, or Error text. Keep the default between Min and Max and make sure it can be reached from Min using the chosen Step. Without a default, the slider starts at Min.
- Review the Field's required and report settings. Save the block, then run Preview to test the lowest, highest, and expected values.
CareMap warns when the range is invalid, Step is larger than the range, or the default is outside the range or does not match Step. Resolve these warnings before publishing.
Complete a Scale answer
The slider shows Min and Max beside it and the selected value below it. Drag or tap the slider. With a keyboard, focus it and use the arrow keys.
CareMap saves a changed value automatically after the interaction. If the answer cannot be saved, an error appears with Retry save. Check the connection and retry before leaving the Guide. If the Field is required, make sure the value finishes saving before completing the Guide.
Design a useful scale
Explain the endpoints in the Field prompt, method label, or Helper text. Keep the range comfortable to use, choose a meaningful Step, and preview the method on the devices people will use.
Use a Scale for ratings or ordered levels. If people need to enter an exact number rather than rate along a continuum, consider a Number answer or another answer method.
Fix common problems
- The Guide has a range warning: Enter numeric Min and Max values and make Max greater than Min.
- The expected value cannot be selected: Check that Step is positive and that the value can be reached by adding Step to Min.
- The wrong value appears first: Correct or clear the Default value. A cleared default starts at Min.
- The answer is missing from the Report: Return to the Guide, move the slider to the intended value, and make sure the automatic save finishes without an error.
