Number Slider answers

Set a numeric slider's range, increments, decimals, and starting value, then save a rating in a Guide.

Choose Number → Input style → Slider for ratings or values along a fixed range. Slider is a presentation of Number, so there is no separate Slider entry in Add answer method. You need Guide edit access to configure it.

Configure the slider

  1. Open a Field, add or select Number, and choose Input style → Slider.
  2. Enter Min and Max, with Max greater than Min.
  3. Enable Allow decimals for fractional bounds, answers, or increments.
  4. Under Advanced settings, enter Step if needed. It must be greater than zero; leaving it blank uses an increment of 1.
  5. Optionally set Default value and Helper text. Review Report settings, after-submit actions, and the Field's Response requirement.
  6. Select Save block and test the reachable values in Preview.

Whole-number sliders require whole-number bounds, Step, and defaults. Enabling decimals allows fractional values but does not change the default increment of 1; set a fractional Step when you need one.

Increments start at Min. For example, Min 0.5, Max 2, and Step 0.5 allow 0.5, 1, 1.5, and 2 when decimals are enabled. A default must be in range and reachable using Step. If Max is not reachable from Min using Step, the slider cannot select that exact endpoint; adjust the bounds or Step.

Without a default, the slider initially displays Min. This starting display alone does not record an answer. Choose the intended value and allow it to save.

Answer with a slider

  1. Select Number when the Field offers multiple methods.
  2. Drag or tap the slider, or focus it and use the keyboard arrow keys.
  3. Check the displayed selected value. CareMap saves after about one second without another change, when the pointer or key is released, or when the control loses focus.
  4. If Done with response appears, select it to accept the displayed value and return to the chooser.

In the Simplified player, large minus and plus controls provide another way to move one increment at a time. They stop at the range limits.

Accepted saves can run configured after-submit actions before Done with response is selected. Authors should test this when a numeric answer routes to another page.

Correct settings or an answer

Move the slider to replace a saved value. Switching to another method keeps the numeric answer. A Slider has no empty-value control; use Text field when the workflow needs a typed number that can be cleared.

A settings warning requires correcting the bounds, Step, or default before saving. Switching styles preserves values rather than rounding them. Custom Error text is inactive for Slider.

For a failed answer save, check the connection and select Retry save. An answer appears in the Report only when it was accepted and the method is included. Legacy Scale remains supported for existing Guides but is no longer offered for new authoring.
