Understand Guide AI credit usage

Check the paying account, temporary holds, per-turn charges, and Goal mode totals.

Codex Guide authoring uses AI credits for model work. The capability to edit a Guide and the credits that pay for a request are separate requirements.

Check credits before a job

  1. Open the Guide's Agent in Codex mode.
  2. Read the available credit balance in its header.
  3. Select the balance to open AI credit balance details.
  4. Review Available for new AI work, Temporary holds, and Settled usage.
  5. Start a scoped request, then review its turn summary and any Goal total.

A balance that cannot be loaded is unavailable information, not proof of zero credits. Reconnect before interpreting it.

Which account pays

Guide editor inference first uses the requesting author's personal AI credits. This also applies when the Guide belongs to an organization; organization ownership does not make the organization's credit balance the automatic payer.

A specific fallback can apply when an effective Guardian edits another account's personal content and the Guardian's own wallet cannot fund the operation because of insufficient credits, entitlement, or wallet availability. CareMap can then use the guarded account's eligible personal credits.

That fallback does not apply to organization-owned content or ordinary shared editing without the required Guardian relationship. The header shows your personal balance; it is not a combined total of every possible funding source.

The owning workspace still needs the Guide authoring capabilities described in Codex mode.

Holds and charges

A new model request needs enough eligible credits for its estimated cost. CareMap can temporarily reserve credits before the final usage is known.

Available credits already exclude holds. A hold is not a settled charge; unused reserved credits return to availability when settlement completes. A nonzero available balance does not guarantee that the next request's full reservation will fit.

Turn summaries show Completed, Failed, or Stopped, elapsed time when available, and charged credits. Final usage pending means the shown charge is not yet the final accounting result.

Stopping or failing does not erase work already performed. Some credits may still be charged and some holds may remain while usage is resolved.

Review a longer job

Goal mode can make several model requests and turns. Its Job total includes the recorded job usage and can update as outstanding charges settle.

The balance details cover broader account usage; an individual response or job summary covers that response or job. These totals need not match.

If a request reports insufficient credits, review the account's allowances and Licenses. If it says earlier usage is still being reconciled, wait for that accounting to resolve and inspect existing work before retrying. Starting another conversation is not a refund or reset.
