Build and edit a Guide in Codex mode
Start cloud Guide authoring, watch accepted changes, and return to the editor to review them.
Codex mode in the Guide editor's Agent can build and change the open Guide. Accepted changes appear in the editor while cloud work runs.
You need permission to edit this Guide and its owning workspace's Content Use, Content Authoring, and Codex Guide Authoring capabilities. AI credit requirements are separate; see Guide AI credits. The cloud workflow is available in web, desktop, and mobile editors.
Start a request
- Open the Guide with Edit and save any unfinished manual edits.
- Open Agent, or More > Agent on a compact layout.
- In an empty chat, turn on Codex mode before sending your first message.
- Describe the changes, intended audience, and content to preserve.
- Select Send message. A message can contain up to 32,000 characters.
- Watch the response and synchronization status.
- When offered, select Review Guide in editor, then inspect and Preview the accepted result.
For example: “Add a three-page handwashing sequence with short instructions and a completion Field. Keep the existing morning routine unchanged.”
A request to make changes can start editing immediately. For discussion first, ask for a plan and explicitly say to wait before editing. You can also build from a selected chat response.
Understand the two kinds of progress
Recent work describes activity such as reading, editing pages, finding images, or checking structure. Progress details expands explanatory updates.
The separate Guide synchronization section shows whether proposed changes have been accepted. A completed message or “files updated” activity is not proof that every edit passed validation. Inspect pending changes and conflicts before treating the work as finished.
Review Guide in editor returns to the Guide; it does not approve or apply a pending batch. Valid changes already appear automatically. Use Warnings and Preview to check the result.
Leave, return, or change modes
Closing the panel or leaving the editor does not stop cloud work. Use Stop work to end it. Codex is working in the background means cloud work remains active while you are choosing or using another chat mode.
Reopen Agent, enable Codex mode when the mode choice appears, and use the history icon to select your conversation. History belongs to your account and this Guide's current workspace. Another editor's conversation is not shared with you, even when you can both edit the Guide. The list contains up to 50 recent conversations, filtered to the current workspace.
The header's Start a new CareMap chat control returns to mode selection. Starting a new chat does not stop an earlier job. Cloud authoring allows one active agent writer for a Guide, so another conversation can wait in the queue.
If Codex mode is missing, check edit access and the owning workspace's capabilities. See cloud authoring recovery for connection, access, and synchronization problems.
