Form validation and grading

Validation checks whether answers can be submitted. Grading optionally compares accepted answers with answer keys. A valid answer can still be incorrect.

Check setup before filling

Authors need edit access to an active Form in an authoring-enabled workspace. Resolve Form issues, finish open dialogs, and wait for saving before testing.

Readiness checks required setup, including labels, choices, display images, and enabled automatic-grading keys. It does not verify that every question is useful or that a person can satisfy an unrealistic combination of rules.

Set answer requirements

1. Open a field in the builder.
2. Review Required and any type-specific limits.
3. Select Done and wait for the save.
4. Use Preview to try both valid and invalid answers.
5. Resolve unexpected validation before people fill the Form.

Next checks the current section; submission checks all sections and returns to an invalid answer. Text, numbers, and dates also show feedback after review or leaving their input.

Required means different things for different fields: a Checkbox must be checked, a range needs both dates, a choice needs a completed selection, and an Upload needs a ready file.

Optional means the question may be entirely unanswered. It does not permit invalid partial input. A selected Other needs text, and an incomplete optional date range must be completed or cleared.

Choose Quiz mode

1. Open Form > Form settings > Quiz.
2. Choose Off, Points, or Percent correct, then select Done.
3. Edit each question that should affect the score.
4. Set Grading to Automatically graded and enter its correct answer.
5. In Points mode, set its point value. Use 0.001–1,000,000, with at most three decimal places.
6. Leave other questions Ungraded, select Done, and resolve Form issues.

Upload fields are always ungraded. Ungraded questions still collect responses. See answer keys and matching before changing a graded field's choices, bounds, or input mode.

Interpret the score

Quiz mode	Result
Off	Answers are collected without a score.
Points	Full configured points for each correct graded field; zero for an incorrect one.
Percent correct	Correct graded fields divided by all graded fields, weighted equally.

There is no partial credit within a field and no Form pass/fail threshold. An unanswered optional graded question still counts as incorrect.

For example, answering only the two-point question correctly in a two-question quiz worth two and one points earns 2 of 3 points. Percent correct would be 50%, regardless of those point values.

A quiz with no automatically graded fields can show zero of zero points or 0%; it does not automatically hide its score. Use Off when no score is wanted.

Successful submission displays the score and saves it with the Report. Later Form edits do not recalculate that submitted score. Preview validates answers but does not produce the submitted quiz result.
