Audio lesson items

Use an Audio item for a recording inside a Course lesson or Reference chapter. Learners receive playback controls and a visible caption when one is supplied.

You need editing access to the project's Library folder and workspace authoring and storage available for uploads.

Add audio

1. Open the project for editing from Library and select a lesson or chapter.
2. Under Add content, select Audio.
3. In Audio file, choose AAC, M4A, MP3, OGG, WAV, or WebM audio up to 50 MB.
4. Enter a Caption to identify or explain the recording.
5. Wait for processing to finish and drag the item's grip to the right position.
6. Wait for Saved, then use Preview to check playback and the caption.

Captions accept up to 5,000 characters. They are visible supporting text, not automatically generated transcripts. Add a Text item with a transcript or equivalent instructions when learners need a written alternative.

The editor also exposes Alt text, but the audio player displays its caption rather than that field. Put essential visible context in Caption or the surrounding Text.

Wait for upload and processing

Uploading means the file is transferring. Processing means CareMap is preparing it. You can edit other content while this finishes.

Ready means processing completed. The project's Saved status is a separate check: wait for both and test playback before leaving. Closing the editor during an unfinished transfer can lose the pending attachment.

A Failed item shows a reason when available. Choose a replacement file after resolving the cause. Returning later can refresh the status of an already attached asset; it does not guarantee resuming an unfinished transfer.

Replace or remove the recording

Choose another Audio file to replace the selection, or use Clear audio to detach it. Clearing leaves the Audio item in the section.

Audio items do not accept external audio URLs. Attach an uploaded file or remove the item before publishing; a media item without a source appears in Publishing readiness.

You can add multiple recordings or interleave Audio with Text and images. Use an item's remove control to remove that whole item.

What learners see

The recording uses standard playback controls on web, desktop, and mobile. Playing it is not required by CareMap before lesson completion, and playback does not create a score. Use a Quiz when learners should demonstrate understanding.

If Learn shows Media is unavailable, use Retry media when offered. Check the connection and ask the author to review persistent problems.

Fix authoring problems

If a file is rejected, check its format and 50 MB limit. Check workspace storage and access if it still cannot upload.

If processing fails, replace the file and preview it again. For failed server saves or a changed draft, use Course saving recovery.
